My opinion is that you could do worse in that price range.

Not many are around these parts are going to covet a Lucasi, but they certainly are a good value for the money, and shoot straight.

In that price range I'd still prefer a plain Joss. I think they're the best production cue for the money.

However, all of the newer Lucasis I've hit with have been nice and solid. I had a bad experience once when the brand first started, but it seems they've gotten past that. You can do much worse than a Lucasi.

BTW - before you bid on those auctions, check out the 5% off discount at Nielsen's. Hey, it's free money.

Briskx,

I think upping your price range was good. You can get a nice hitting cue for around $130-150. Personally, I would stay away from cues that have decals on them. If you insist on "fancy" looking cues, then get a cue that has actual inlays. However, I would get a nice "plain jane" cue without all the inlays. The inlays don't help you play better and they usual add cost to the cue.

All that aside, I would look at Joss, Lucasi, Mcdermott. I'm sure there are several others. It would be nice if you could actually hit with a few of them prior to purchase. If I was getting my first cue and only had $150 to spend, I would look seriously at a "plain jane" joss. They are quality made and have a nice "hit" to them.

Regards,
Doug

You really can't go wrong with a Lucasi. They are production cues, however, they seem to be a cut above others in their price range. Their inlays are real (no decals) and I personally haven't heard of anyone having warping problems with them. Most use the UniLoc joint with a 13mm shaft, but you can always upgrade the shaft at a later date to improve or change the hit a bit. Their weight bolts are replaceable, so you can change the weight if necessary.

I play on two different league teams and several of my teammates and others in the league have Lucasi cues. No one has had an incident or complaint. I have also owned a couple in the past and they performed well. I've had the opportunity to shoot with a bunch of them and they all seem to have a consistent, albeit rather dull hit.

Again, this is referring to the price range you're looking at. As you move up a few hundred dollars, you will get into low cost, plain jane, customs.

Hope this helps...

You can also find a simple Viking in that price range, and they are good players. If you find a dealer like I am, then you can select options such as wrap color, shaft size/taper, stain color, weight, etc depending on the cue and get it the way you want it from the factory. The F97 lists for $170 and you can choose the stain color, wrap color, etc. You can find the cue for around 20% less than list, so that is $140-150. Click on this link and try out the cue customizer. If you like it and I can help you order what you want, let me know.

I love my Viking, and prefer to go most places with it over my Samsara.

Nothing at all wrong wrong with going that route, but here's another angle:
If you're going to get an inexpensive cue, get a fairly cheap and plain one.
A couple of real good players at the hall went that route (primarily, because thats all they could afford). One's an "Action" and the other a "Player" - both sneaky pete style and they look decent and these guys shoot shortsop level with them - they probly only have $40-$50 in them (if that!!) in fact, I think one guy picked up a used predator shaft on the cheap for his.

My two sons each have one, and both had the wraps unravel and required replacement at about $40 per. Both hit well, however.

Just to further confuse the issue remember a lot of what you are paying for with those two brands goes for the advertising dollars these two company are spending. From what i have seen those are the two import companies that are spending the most to put there logo out there. Look at this cue for instance, when Lucasi had there logo on it they sold it for way over $200.
There have been other threads on this very forum to substanciate this.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7241109004&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESE:IT&rd=1

I tell folk who don't have big buck to go to the House of Cues in PHX, and look & hit with a Lucasi. Lots of Cue for the Money...IMO

Just to add my two cents...i shot with A Meucie for a long time and had great success beating alot of people..but i walked in to Todd's Pro shop here in Richmond Va. Home of the Parrot Cue and saw a Luccasi that just jumped out at me...I only went there to get a new tip put on my old stick ...walked out with a beautiful Luccasi... i payed a bit much 290.00 for the cue but i upgraded to two diffrent shaft a 314 and a Black Dot..i shot with the 314 and love the hit and feel of the cue. i droped the weight to 18 1/2 so that i could have a bit more control of the cue ball and man it is a great cue

Old Has been had a Balabushka but played with a
Lucasi. They're pretty good. For the money I liked Joss
a little better, however.
