When Did it Come to This?

This place is really no different than a regular pool hall. Some people have thin skin, some thicker than others. If your skin is to thin, my advice is don't ever leave your house and pool definately ain't for you.

There are very few posters here that I wouldn't still have a beer with even though we disagree on certain things. Heck , you're never going to agree with everyone on everything.

But like any argument the possibility exists that it will escalate and get outta hand. Just try to remember you only get 80 years or so here, and most of you are already more than half finished, so do you really want to spend time arguing to the death about centerball aim, which wpba player is straight, and if Muslims are going to take over the world.

Ok I am in for the latter.

This place is really no different than a regular pool hall....

I worked in a pool room for years, and the only times I saw tempers flare usually were during gambling sessions, i.e., a bad hit, money, whose turn it is, et cetera.

In my pool room, if anybody spoke to another in derogatory terms, as happens sometimes on forums, they might not enjoy the walk to their car in the parking lot outside.

It's real easy to spew vulgarities and nasty comments behind the shield of a monitor on a forum, especially when it's anonymous by an unidentified troll or a multiple-identitied member.

If you were ever to meet some of the trolls or bullies in person, you just might shake your head and wonder why you wasted any thought on these numbskulls. In fact, "troll" is a good physical description in some cases. I believe that anyone who takes pleasure in attacking others on a forum to cause hurt and anger may be those who got picked on in school when they were younger, now taking their revenge behind the monitor screen as adults. They can't stand tall on their own but feel comfortable with a gang. Of course, the gang of bullies is a much easier culture to be accepted into than, say, a gang of intellects or professional-caliber folk.

Hey, to each their own. Those who seem to take pleasure attacking others and engage in a gang mentality must not be happy in their everyday lives. Misery loves company; thus, why forums give them an avenue to vent their frustrations and hate en masse.

My experience in pool rooms may be quite different than others, but that's how I see it. This gang mentality of bullies is not unique to the pool world; however, it is forum culture in general.

Any pool room that allowed the kind of behavior that goes on here sometimes would not get my business. It's not a matter of how thick one's skin is, it's a matter maturity. I've been around the game a long time. I assure you, some of the worst here would not dare say the same things to someone's face.

IMHO a person doesn't have to call another Member BAD NAMES to make a point, if people would pretend they are talking to other Member face to face, and not from the comfort of their keyboard, maybe some of this non sense would stop. JMHO!
