When Did it Come to This?

The sad thing is the minority is winning the battle of life, politics, etc., because too few speak, and the silent majority stay silent.

That is so true. Yesterday, we were out and about, driving around, when we hit a red light. On the side of the road were numerous pollsters trying to lure people to vote for the Mayor of D.C.

Our windows were open. The pollster said to Keith, "Are you a D.C. resident?" Keith didn't want to answer him, but trying to be polite, I said we were. He then went through a spiel about we should vote for Vincent Gray and not reelect Mayor Fenty.

As we pulled off, I said to Keith, "You know, we should go vote next week," to which he replied, "Why? It's not going to do any good." Well, if everybody felt that way, the elected officials would be mainly in because of lobbyists, et cetera.

I'm voting next week for Mayor Fenty, and I'm dragging Keith with me. ;)

IMHO the U.S.A. is going down hill fast, headed towards CRAP.

This country was once great, and the word "problem " was in our vocabulary.

On December 7, 1941 the Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, who were attacked at Pearl Harbor, did not deal with the attack on Pearl like it was an "ISSUE". Stand around talk about the “issue” doing nothing!

We in America use to take Pride in Our Jobs, Our Products We Made, and Our Work Ethic. That IMHO is not happening in 2010.

We in America use to identify & solve the problems, with products, who's ideas we created in America, than we manufactured those products in America, and last Exported those America Products to the World.

Today we talk about "ISSUES", Import more than we Export, have allowed our Elected Pubic Officials to send our Job to other lands, our exported products to be taxes to the point of making America Made products unreasonable priced, with little or no taxes or tariffs on foreign made Imported in to the U.S.A.!

CC , buddy , I love ya , but . . . .

The definition of irony is to place this statement directly above a picture of your new Chinese case . No politician sent that job to China - you did .

What are your thoughts on education being part of the problem? The so called "dumbing down" of America?

I think it is a major issue, which is why every time you post and can't figure out when to use a comma, when to use a capital letter, or use the word "use" instead of "used", I feel a part of America die.

And the post above me deserves a straight answer from your super patriotic ass. How can you preach about buying American above your new case just made in China with parts made in China?

Maybe the problem isn't the message, it is the messenger.

It is more than communication. Sometimes a person will align themselves with forum bullies in an effort to gain acceptance.

When a flame thread erupts, they join right in, trying to contribute as much negative content as they can against the victim, hoping the forum bullies will accept them. Instead of standing tall and being their own person, they can only follow a pack, much like a poor nitwit chasing a fire engine.

In reality, their lives are empty, and this gang mentality is only a vehicle for them to feel better about their existence. Quite sad, really, when you think about it. :frown:

You and I have had our disagreements over the years. And again, we don't seem to see eye to eye on this. But I'll be as civil and as diplomatic as I can here.

Assuming that you are referring to me as one of the forum bullies (as Lisa implied earlier), I have to take issue with that. Lisa claimed, like so many others do, that she loved AZ because it was a resource where she could learn more about the game and share her passion for it with others (I'm paraphrasing). I understand that feeling but, as someone who has been a member here in one incarnation or another for the better part of the last decade, it has become apparent that there are quite a few extremely knowledgeable posters here. But there are also a quite a few IDIOTS who add little more than bullsh*t to the forum. And personally, when I see or smell bullsh*t, I like to point it out so that others don't step in it. I'm not saying you're one of those people. I'm only saying that when I see something that isn't right, I point it out. I would expect MOST people to do the same.

That brings up the debate about opinions. Who decides which opinions are right and which opinions are wrong? In reality, no one should. An opinion should not be stated as fact but rather a personal belief. Still, it happens. Someone feels passionate about something and they state their opinions as if they ARE fact. That's where disagreement and debate enters the picture. To expect everyone to see eye to eye is unrealistic. To expect people to disagree but never make their differences known is ALSO unrealistic and frankly, not productive in any way. Sure, some people handle those disagreements in a different manner than others but that's to be expected. Afterall, we're not all the same person. So it boils down to being able to express those differences of opinion in a civil manner. Right?
In this case, this thread was started by an individual who was complaining about how there is no more decency in this forum. It was a thread started right on the heels of an attack that she launched on another poster for... voicing his opinion.

Call me a bully all you want. The reality is Lisa went on the offensive and jumped down some guy's back. She then stepped back and claimed that too many OTHERS go on the offensive and jump down people's backs way too quickly and far too often. If that ain't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is.

Mia, I don't even know who you are, so I'm not sure why you would believe that I am writing about you in my post. Have we communicated in the past? If so, I apologize, as I cannot remember.

With that said, let me try to clarify what I was trying to say, though I'm not sure why you think it is about you.

There are some posters who join in flame threads with bullies, not because they actually disagree with the victim that the bullies are attacking, but only because they want to be accepted by the bullies; within their inner circle, if you will.

I would apologize to you if I had written something specifically about you, but truth be told, Mia, this is the first time I think I've ever read a post of yours. :embarrassed2:

To be clear, there are some people who like to pick on others, not because they dislike the other person, but they do it because they realize the bullies don't like that person. They continue to attack the person, hoping the bullies take notice. This is, in fact, the only reason they attack and target the other person. I hope I have helped you to realize that my post had nothing to do with you.

True but I had a choice, and chose the best guy, and his team for the job. John Barton is an American Citizen, and Veteran of Service in the U.S. Military Service.

Yes John is living and working in China because his company sent him there to see their products are built to the standards their customers want.

He is there Q/C Guy, and also has a company called, JB Cases. I am sure if John was living in the U.S.A. he would be running JB Cases in the U.S.A.

So do you have a problem with my Case, or where it was made? I have no problem with the Cases Quality, or the work being by John and his Team of Chinese people who happen to take a great deal of pride in the products they produce.

Kind of like what Ford Motor Company said in it's commercials many years ago. Something like the: Quality going in, before the name going on.

I honestly do not think you can read, as I never said in the post, you mentioned buy American.

I talked about America Circa 1941, and America Circa 2010. Two very different Countries!

BTW I drive a KIA, because it is a great trouble free vehicle. My KIA was made in Korea!

I love Kia. I really wanted one after I saw this.

As for as I am concerned all of you center to edge aim guys can go straight to hell. People who prefer blue cloth rather than green can fall on a rusty fork and get AIDS. Am I sounding hateful enough. Gooddd!!!!!

I am being sarcastic if you can't tell. Sarcasm doesn't always do well on a forum.

I can't say I dislike anyone on this forum because in truth I don't know 99 percent of you.

Have a great weekend,

Marcus

Every word uttered is as a drop in the ocean but each drop makes its individual contribution to the health of the ocean.

We have a choice whether we will add pollution or disolve the pollution.

It's always an individual choice that determines the health of the ocean.

You know, I got a few PMs yesterday on this, and I'm still not sure if I remember Pharaoh68. Of course, I know SUPERSTAR from several in-person encounters years ago. I did a search on the member tab of this forum for Pharaoh68 but came up empty. My memory is not as good as it used to be. I meet people at tournaments and sometimes I can definitely remember their face but not their name. I guess it's a woman or an old age "thang' or maybe both. :embarrassed2:

Of course, a few days ago, I thought "JA" was Johnny Archer, until SUPERSTAR explained what the acronym meant. :smile-us-down:

At any rate, I did commnicate with Mia, and I think we're okay on this topic now. In sum, I was speaking in generalities in my posts on this thread, and Mia took them personally. I've misinterpreted the written word on this very forum myself, so I can understand how it happened. No harm, no foul.

Peace be to all on this thread!

Sadly, in the human race ignorance and superstition win out over knowledge and reason every time.

Three cheers for Mr. Wilson

Arguments have taken center-stage over pool, and AZB has a cavernous rift running through it. Common decency and respect are all but gone. On any given day, members are choosing up sides like they're getting ready for a school-yard brawl. As the du juor antagonists face-off...you can hear the collective chant of 'Fight, fight, fight!' echoing throughout. It's as if our once common love of the game has degraded to a blood-sport.

No longer is it 'okay' to have differing opinions, and to move on. It has become an imperative that there be a triumphant. The reality is, there are no winners in such actions...as the wounds inflicted begin to fester until eventually, the entirety is compromised beyond reversal.

In the past, I have looked to AZB as a respite...where I could share thoughts about the game I love, where I could research and learn new things, where I could find out the latest on the players we revere so, see new products and cues...and to share a smile. It is less of that now than it has ever been...and I feel like I am losing an old friend.

Lisa

everyone's a keyboard tough guy these days.

az used to be a bunch of guys that liked to buy and sell cues and talk about pool in between. now everyone's too broke to buy and sell stuff so they take out their frustrations out on each other with belittling comments and insulting remarks to make themselves feel better
