When Did You Know AZB Forums was Family?

When a family friends son was diagnosed with cancer and the people of AzBilliards came to his aid. There were so many donations, big and small, that the family will be forever grateful for.

Koop - will NEVER forget what you folks did for a little boy that you didn't even know.

P.S. He is doing great today, in complete remission and playing every sport under the sun.

Wow!!

Family

With the outpouring of support for Smorg and the new friendships that I've gained in the last year, AZ has never seemed more like Family to me as it does right now!

It's bizarre to me that you can become so familiar with people just from their writings without ever actually meeting! I think maybe we expose more of our souls with writing than we do with the spoken word.

Thanks everyone for making this a great place!

Sincerely,

Ray Hansen

Great Thread Melinda!!
I am fairly new to AZB (joined april of this year)So not sure if I am considered part of the AZ family, but I have met some very good people, who all love this great sport.
I was not here when OHB was an Az er. I just read the thread about him.
I will say in all honesty, there were tears rolling down my face, especially when I read the post from his wife. Wow, what a giving soul.
All I have to say is, "I sure wish I would of joined AZB sooner."
I would of loved to read the stories about his gambling days.
I lost my mom in 2005 and I came verrrrry close to quitting pool all together. Her tragic death left a big hole in me. But I knew she would never want me to quit what I loved doing most in this world, and that is playing pool.
The passion on this site is amazing. It inspires me to be the best I can be.
All of you inspire me. Just wanted to say thank you. This site has contributed to me getting my passion back.:)

While i try not to speak for everyone, I will say this. To me, when someone joins this forum, and starts making posts, sharing info and idea's, they're sharing part of their life. While some members on here have conflicts with others, that comes with family members too. Look at any post on here about someone being sick, even a family member or friend of one of our members, and see how many responses they get from others saying "thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery". Or condolences for someones family and friends. It don't take much to join this family.
This is just my opinion, just don't ask me to loan you guys money. If you're hungry and busted, best I can do is, offer to make you sandwich and some chips. LOL...... Have a great day.

I don't post often anymore but have been around for a long time, started with the good ol' RSB before joining the AzB family. It's always nice to see and hear what's going on across the ocean. Peace to all and greets from Finland. :)

I remember the exact day when I realized AZB was family. I had been reading the forums but not posting a lot. One day ran across this thread about OldHasBeen and was weeping about a man I had never met. I was crying true tears because the love for this man was so obvious from everyone here. It made me realize AZB forums was a family.

I felt like I became a family member on a sad day a year ago on this date. I had been posting much more frequently and meeting AZBers away from the internet and when my Dad passed, someone started a thread for me. It meant the world to me and that's when I felt like a family member.

Please share your stories about when you first recognized AZB forums as family and/or when you felt like a family member.

P.S. The last year and a half had its ups and downs, and coming here has really helped me when I would get depressed. Thank you!
When I saw so much fussing I knew we all must be family, it was just like me and my two brothers going at it when we were children and dad puts us on restriction, like Mr Wilson does.
But on the kinder side was all the kind words of encouragement and even cash donations AZ members sent to me when my late wife was dying of cancer. Now isn't that just like family, fuss and fight, but stick together and look out for each other when times get tough?

Bumping this thread up as a reminder of how the forum used to be.

A kinda mushy thread, by a really great gal, with almost no haters. The one hater that did show up was red bombed in true Smorg fashion. Ahhh the good ole days.

Hope you all are doing well.

Ray

When I loaned a forum member some money and he didn't pay me back. Yep that's family alright. :o

That would suck. Unfortunately loaning money to many pool players is something you shouldn't do if you are expecting re-payment. Most will never have the money to re-pay unless they take a different course in their chosen career.

Hope you're doing well. See you at the Houston Open hopefully.

Ray

ps. were you ever able to put that banking tool to any good use?

before i was ever a member

a customer got in touch and told me about a guy slamming me on this thing called azb. thats old news and the slammer has been banned. but i noticed that a lot of members agreed with me without even knowing me, and a few that did know me stuck up for me and my cue building policies. so i joined.
i now am on almost everyday and have sold a few cues, but have gained many new friends, and a enormous amount of information. if you are a builder or just want to understand cue construction, the ask cuemaker forum is invaluable.

I don't think it is...

now I do belong to a forum that has that family/friend feel. Not pool related though.

It is very much like a family- both AZB and pool in general. We don't choose each other, and we're pretty much stuck with each other for life, so we have to learn how to get along.

I mess with NPR rather a lot- it's rare for anyone to agree on anything, the arguments can get vicious and disparaging, and yet those differences tend to get pushed aside when the real good and the bad events come along.

Memories run deep, like a family, too. I remember when X's cue was stolen, when Y's dog died, and when Z posted that hilarious pic of himself lying on a pool table like a centerfold model...

Thanks to the op I'm reading Brad Gilbert's book Winning Ugly. Its pretty good. I've picked up a couple of things from the book and a whole lot from this forum. Thanks everyone!
