When rail birds attack!

Hi,

although situations like the one i'm about to describe should never happen, it does happen from time to time ...

what am i talking about? I am talking situations where people who are sitting and watching and even sweating ( betting a lil somethin ) a match, get involved by drawing attention to themselves and piss everyone off in the process. I've seen guys lose matches partly due to the fact that they wanted to knock out that loudmouth heckler on the rail that kept shouting "This guy can't run out the door!"

I've seen Guys like Earl Strickland call them out during a match and made no attempt to hide his agitation and displeasure with them; which leads to the purpose of this thread.

Have you guys ever witnessed a match impacted by rail birds , so much so that it actually messed with the players? .... and who has the best temperment with heckling rail birds ( out of pros )

I had a railbird try to knock my action with a really good local player. He said loudly that I couldn't win. It was because he wanted to play me instead. I told him he could bet what he wanted on the side against me and he declined the action. Then I proceeded to beat the shortstop out of $900 playing one pocket. Then I told the railbird that he could play me one small set for $200 if he gave up 9:6 - he is supposed to win that one every time. But not tonight - I beat him and took down a nice little $1100 score that night.

Sometimes they attack and get barbequed for it.

I have however lost quite a few more matches in my life because I couldn't fade the rail's comments.

What a surprise huh?

Earl is also the master of using railbirds as a sharking technique. I've seen him go off on railbirds who did absolutely nothing just to get a distraction going when his game was off.
You don't want to be the poor guy who coughs or sneezes at the wrong moment when Earl's in that mode.

cough, sneeze, fart, it does'nt matter earl will let u know about it.

Definitely

I've been present for a couple of Earl's meltdowns. One in particular at the US Open. The saddest part is that I know of at least one railbird that went in with the INTENTION of throwing Earl off his game and the person succeeded.

SVB is pretty good at ignoring the railbirds...he just turns off his hearing aid:grin: .

I vaguely remember an incident from the remote past when rafael martinez was backed by 'big daddy' of cincinatti .There were some unplesant exchanges between them and some pro player during a protour event.

I know a guy who thinks it is "OK" to come up and pester the shit out of ya while you are gambling with someone else..saying stuff like "you should be giving that guy the 7!" , "how are you gonna hit that shot?","what happened to my little female friend?" and god knows what all else. He even started in on my weight last week. It seems as if he takes great pride in rattling my cage and trying to screw with my games. Pathetic! If he wasn't old and a boxing coach I think I would have knocked him on his ass a few weeks ago! :D

Daddy Warbucks

I heard an old story about Daddy warbucks was being distracted by a rail bird. He walked over, grabbed the guy by the throat and asked him if had any action in this game ... if not you better leave. True or not...not a bad way to solve the problem.

No. More like a short fat low rent version of Joe Pesci:smile:

chirp chirp

Have seen it in money matches.

There is a local guy who likes to side bet and then try to distract his guys opponent. He does this in money matches and tournament matches.

Myself I have had friends of opponents try to get under my skin.Last time at BCA regional 8 ball my opponents buddy kept asking him"can this guy shoot?","why did he do that?,I woulda..."
