I did it 7 days a week for like years. That was 35 to 40 tears ago. Today, I would not gamble in bars with strangers period. Times have REALLY changed.

Whenever you play 8 ball espcially make sure you know the house rules. You would not believe what some people "know" are the rules.
For example, in some bars you cannot play safe. Even if you hit your ball first you cannot use the other persons ball in a combo.
They swear they know the rules????
The list goes on.

Think it was earlier this week. Most of the time, im just playing friends, so there's not much money and there's usually a healthy spot. Getting to the point where many of the people in the bar are playing bih rules, even some of the weekend warriors. Now, if i could just get some better action.

Last night... The game was 9 ball on small Diamond Tables. The bet was races to 4 for $10 bucks. I lost the first two sets, since I have not played 9 ball in about 9 months. (Mostly One Pocket) After those two sets, I caught a gear, and won 6 sets in a row. So I won $40 Bucks...

The last time was about a month ago because I haven't been playing much except league lately due to some personal circumstances. But I usually play for money about once a week or every couple of weeks. It's mostly the same usual suspects where we bet anything from $5 a game to $100 sets but not high roller type stuff.

About a month ago... We played for a dollar lol.

Couple months ago, saw some guys at a bar that I knew from my pool league and we played $10 games.

Couple more months ago some stranger saw me playing with pool hall buddies and asked me to play... First he says a rack for 20. I say sure, but some other guy jumps in and says that's his table, so they play for 5, then I'm back up and that guy won so it's us again, now he says a rack for 40, I say you're on dude without missing a beat. The look on his face was priceless, like he expected me to be scared to bet that much. I guess he's saw a young guy, I'm in my 20s but look all of 16, and thought he'd try to look tough. He never had a chance... I insisted we post he cash with the dj, and gave him 10 from my win after. Also after the break this guy tries to pull some hustle saying you gotta give me some ball off the table... I was like too late bro should got that straight before the game started. I don't know if he was gonna try to pull some poolhall junkies shit with the phrasing and hustle me... Real easy win.

Oh and he also pulled some bs in the game when he shot at the 8 to combo his ball... "The 8 is neutral" I didn't argue cause I knew he was losing this game no matter what he tried.

That is the only random who has ever played me in that bar for more than $5.

Other than that it's like 1 or 2 random games for $5 about every 6 months... and some more expensive games against players I know from another pool hall. The bar is open later than the hall so that's pretty common.

Last time I played for money in a bar, I challenged the table when everybody was playing for drinks and I held the table for hours at end, playing all challengers.

When one of the last guys remaining finally won a game, he wanted some sort of "sissy" drink that cost about three times the price of a regular drink (beer, shot, etc.). I mentioned that maybe we should play for the "price" of his drink and the winner of the games would buy whatever drink they wanted with the money.

Long story short, I left with $600 of his "drink" money.

Aloha.

Last weekend started out playing for a beer. Soon game went to ten a game came home with fourty bucks. We played bank the eight. And yes know the rules before you play eight ball in a bar can save your ass a lot of money and trouble.

Never played in a bar for money.
I've played on Bar tables for money in non-bar places. Last time I can recall was in the 70's sometime while I was on vacation with my family in Florida (Disney World). Some drunk guy came in the hotel's game room bragging about how great he was at shooting pool. I wasn't anything to brag about, but I knew it wouldn't take a pro to take this guy down given how drunk he was. I took him for $5. Not bad for an 8th grader in the late 70's.

As an adult, I'm not a fan of bar tables...or for that matter being in bars. No offense to anyone who is, just not my cup of tea. -Z-

I don't really play in bars besides the odd tournament. At the ripe old age of 27, I am no longer a fan of that environment in any capacity. I gambled yesterday at the pool hall though and broke even. Played with a guy that doesn't shoot as straight as I do but he knows one pocket and moves a little better. I came out on top playing 9 ball and he won his money back playing one pocket. I'm a cheapo, we played 5 a game.

I still remember a time when I was around 12, and I was at a rec center with only $20 in my pocket. There were a group of teenagers that I knew I would be stealing from, and they would assume that I couldn't play at all.

So I bet the $20 on a game of 8-ball with one of them, and I got the break. I scratched on the break and they all said that's a loss of game. I ended up having to hand over the only $20 I had, with no way to win it back without firing an air barrel.

Another time when I was like 15/16, I was with some friends in a bowling alley and this 19 or 20 year old guy was trying to impress his girlfriend by winning money playing pool. We played two games at like $25 a game, and I won both.

He forgot to tell me that the rules stipulated that I wasn't allowed to actually win and keep the money. After I won, he did give me the money because he was in front of his girlfriend and wanted to act like it didn't matter to him.

Later he followed me and my friends to a restaurant after we left the bowling alley, and said I had to give the money back because it was all he had, while threatening me with a knife. I handed the $50 back to him since he clearly needed it more than me.

Last month after league night finished.
5 per game took 40

Nothing big just hangin out. I'm not really much of a gambler but I will play a little if they insist. I would rather just play for fun even though I dont usually lose vs the folks I am willing to gamble with.

I lost a game of straight pool and had to buy my opponent an order of fries earlier this week. Does that count? I stay out of the circle games, but we have people playing for a grand a game.
