Where are the 10 footers?

I talked to Butch today that was part-owner at the Velvet Rail and he said that wasn't the same table at my buddies house. Butch knew where my buddies table came from and it was from a house. The one at Velvet Rail was a reworked snooker table.

The slate on this puppy is 2 inches thick and weight 600 pounds a piece. It was a pain moving it in but well worth it after all the famous players that stop by and hit some from time to time and the enjoyment I get practing.

This one is not a conversion table. The table has the accruate and original pocket irons! it truely is rare!

I mislead the age estimate - it's pre WorldWar ONE,
or thereabouts
Brazilian Rosewood was all Bruns used<those were the days, hey?>

the cracked ivory is also very common, glad you got the replacements.

Not easy to come by, but there still exists private billiard rooms in NY with nothign but 5'x10' 4.25" pockets.

That is true! the slate says J.E. Cane & Co. They went out of business in 1904 if I am remembering correctly. My dad was so existed when it arrived and researched the company to date the table.

the cracked ivory is also very common, glad you got the replacements.

love to have you doc. I have had Keith McCready, Danny Green & Jimmy Fusco stop by just to name a few! They all love it!!! They are all local and I am sure as time goes by the list will expand. Been hounding Mike Davis and a few others locally to stop by. I could use the practice and you can't beat free pool!!!:D :cool: :D

I have to have a table mechanic come by to shim it and fix the joint area of the slate. The old puddy or stuff they used on the seems was hard to get of and the mechanic did a poor job getting it off. Once I get those two things tightened up I am hoping to correct the pockets and stretch then out or use leather softner to soak the pockets and help the leather stretch and stop spitting out balls from time to time.

Just a sidenote on the 10 foot big bertha at Raytown Rec(kc area). It was a table out of the old Kling and Allen poolroom in Kansas City. The table was said by the owner to be used in one of Willie Mosconi's championship title defenses. It is a great table with much history.

I was there, off and on from about '84 to '93,
working a grownup job, then cuemaking.

Used to play at the old 'Bill and Billies' in Glen Burnie.

"Just got back from VF..Looks like there's been alot going on....Anyway I've made 10 ft. tables before. I'm retired from day to day functions but I know we can still make 10 fters, but I need to talk to Chad about the cost and how long it would take to make one....I know they have been very busy at the plant with 7,8, and 9 footers. I don't think we have 10 ft slates in stock but they could be ordered...Please give Chad a call at 812-288-7665 and see what he says. I called Diamond about a year ago and they told me they could not do it. However, maybe you will have better luck.

I do know though that you can order them from Olhausen, which are not bad tables. They offer their Championship Pro series (both models) in a 10 foot version. I have been thinking about contacting them to order one but haven't made a final decision yet.

I tried to set up a link, but could not do it.

Essentially, if you go into build your own table and choose one of the Championship models you can designate 10 foot versus 9, 8 or 7.

When you choose the specific model, Champion Pro or Grand Champion, under the "Model" tab, look to the right and you can choose a 10 foot option.

Because it is in the Build the Table Section of the website, which opens to a different window, I cannot set up a link to take you directly there.

However, I just checked again and I could see the 10 foot option. However, there are no prices given.

I got some info from the antique shop I bought from and from the Brunswick Historian Joe Newell and he said as well as the antique dealer the table came out of an old pool room and was a one of a kind specialty table made for pool rooms! He had never seen one like it and believes the tiger oak is stained with some special red ox blood or something if memory serves me correct? can't remember!!

I got it home and had the rubber cushions replaced, pockets redone by hood leather and put on new brass rossettes and put the old ones into storage if I ever want to put the brass ones back on that turned dark brown to give it that really old look!

Other than one shipping nick the seller caused in shipping, it is in prestine condition and based on how hard the rubber was the table saw no play and was never moved until recently!

Doesn't look like a ten footer, but I'll take your word for it. Also, are those rails stained, or merely aren't original.
