Where Do Tables Go To Die?

I've been in the flooring business for 43 years and have probably measured 20,000 or so houses in person.
You would be amazed at how many pool tables I've seen that are being used as craft tables, laundry tables and junk stored on them.
On the other hand I've seen a lot of true antique tables that just amazed me and are still being used as pool tables.
You know you mentioned this to me before years ago. I have a bit of a memory of it. I was building something or remodeling and you gave me solid advice. I just can’t put my finger on what it was. Funny how the memory works. Thanks, I remember it was very helpful. If I can recall I’ll let you know. Long time ago.

Old pianos also meet a sad fate..they are cut up and disposed of often. The Market for them is not strong. You do see a lot of them repurposed into Bars, hutches, TV stands etc. however.

This was my mothers and before that her Grandmothers.... We don't play..I have thought about making the top panel move farther than it is designed to do and hiding a flat screen TV in it.

I knew a guy in the antiques biz who repurposed them into desks.

I stopped in this old 1 room school house. Mounted on the wall was a 3 piece pool table slate.
Wide boards acted as the chalk boards frame covering the holes.
You can still see the slates 2 seams but that didn't bother the 3/4'' diameter chalk sticks.

With the multitude of table threads on this forum and the ongoing discussions about which tables are better (or worse), I'm curious to know what happens to tables when they've reached the end of their life.

I assume some find there way into people's homes with others on a scrap heap as they're worn beyond repair. Maybe some even get upcycled with slate being repurposed!
They become laundry folding tables.

My old 8 foot from the 80s had a 3/4 inch one piece stale. It was a cheap table when it was new. I think I paid the junk man $200 to break it up and take it away. I had to make room for my new table.

My family room table is a recycle. Slate (1" Italian) came from a scraped table in the 40s, carved sold oak legs came from another, and we built the frame and rails from scratch. Oak timbers for the frame came from a shipyard, salvaged from something. Beefy full dimensional stuff. 12"/14" x 4"+ iirc. Been a great playing table going on like 40 years now.
Where are pics of that?!

Could turn the slate into a coffin.

Trim it up with some of the wood.

Carve a headstone with the rest.

most are being buried in cemeteries.

young people dont play pool much on big tables, but the old people do, so having them in a cemetery, makes all the old people just dying to go there.
