Just wondering, what's scotty morgan's speed or for that matter, what are the typical speeds of the Hard Times players on a weekday night. I'm a small to medium type action player, $50 - $500, per set player for a race to 5 to 11 on 9 or 10-ball; and a $20 - $100 per game in 1P depending on the action. I'm from the SF Bay Area and I have a 110 speed in USPPA ratings. With regular practice, I can beat our local pros here in the likes of George Michaels, Deo Alpajora, Amar Kang, Tony Chohan etc. in open tourneys.
Then you should beat a lot of players at HT.
You can "invest" a little and get the big fish if you have time and inclination.

Froooom the way the look, the outer tables might be 9's but I just don't know about the tourney tables, but like I said ill find out for sure, come back, and if im wrong, ill ignore this thread. LOL.

Get a grip, man, or lose your money.. All the gold crowns at hard times are 4.5 x 9 feet, playing surface of 50 x 100 in.'s. Jay has been the tournment director for a number of pro events there in year's past, should know what he is talking about, don't you think?

I didn't know HT's had 8ft tournament tables:eek: . No wonder Efren makes everything look so easy at HT's:D .

danny k's is very nice with great people and tables, the pockets are bigger than you want. with all it's advantages however, they will be neutralized if you happen to play a guy named scotty morgan in the tournament.

if you want tight pockets and MORE scotty morgan type people, hop on the 91 west for 20 minutes and exit bellflower and go to hard times, which has tight pockets just like you like them.

Hahaha this post made my day. With Scotty I have never played him though. But he is probably the worst player you could play in a tournament. I have never seen him go through a match without arguing with his opponent. One time at Danny K's during the straight pool tournament he started an argument with his opponent when he was down -8 to 75 going to 100. Also he was playing at hard times and started arguing with one of the locals there who imho is one of the nicest guys ever. I dont have any problems with Scotty but hes not worth playing for putting up with the crap he shits out.

What other tournaments are there in the surrounding area? (various parts of LA) Are there any weekly one-pocket or 8 ball tourneys?

Saturday nights there is an 8 ball tournament at Mr. Luckys in Torrance. That is the only one I know of for 8 ball.

Oh there is Bart's Pub in Garden Grove but the fields are really weak and the tables have been beaten to near death, plus they let people smoke inside and I got really sick from that last time I was there. The tournaments there I think are on Wed. and Sun. nights.

All tournaments mentioned are bar box tourneys. If you want to know anymore 9 ball big table tourneys I can mention those as well.

If you can beat those guys you should rob me, but I will play you some $50/$100 a game one pocket next time you get to Hard Times, Sacramento. PM me or e-mail me john.h@starband.net or call 530-620-1037 John Henderson

I thought they were 7 foot tables??

:D

Russ....

I think they're 6 foot tables that just look like 8 foot tables because of the carpeting. :D

What does this mean ( GTH )? By the way, when you measure the tables don't use the same measuring tape you use to measure certain parts of your body or those 9 footers may turn into 11 footers, at least that's what she said.

For what it's worth the first time I went to Hard Times I asked whether all of the regular tables were 9 foot and the counter person told me yes.

Thanks - I think the tables in hell are only 1 x 2's. I'll see if runoutalloveru will go measure them also.
And they only serve warm beer in the can.
