Dufferin's are generally ok cues, top of the range house cues, with a good tip you should be ok. I checked the prices of the peradon cues, and they seem to have gone WAY up lately. The cheapest one-piece they have used to be 55 pounds now it's 82, for a two piece 122 minimum, so forget those. If you want something cheaper, Riley are also very nice production cues, I don't know if they have dealers in the US.
Smith and Wesson is a great choice for guns, I own a nice model 29 .44 magnum, wouldn't buy one of their cues.

edit: I have no experience with the new Dufferins made in China. I'd try to find a store that still has some Canadian made ones since they are proven quality, without knocking on the new ones I just haven't tried them.
