Where to play in Maine

My wife and I are going up the coast of Maine for vacation. I probably won't get a chance to play, but just in case I'm taking my cue. Anybody know good Maine rooms close to the coast?

I'm not sure where on the coast you are going but if you are going north of Brunswick there is a place called Side Pocket in Gardiner. It is probably 30-35 miles from the coast and I hear it is a fairly busy place. I have never been there myself but know a few who play there every once in a while. Below is a map link.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. We're going up to Acadia Nat'l Park and also probably stopping in Portland to visit my cousin. It looks like it is only 4 or so miles off 95.

If you are coming up 95 you might want to stop in at TJ's Classic Billiards in Waterville, it is very close to the interstate and has some fine tables. From my experience, there it is a younger crowd at TJ's but some decent players. You would take the first Waterville exit and take a right at the end of the ramp, go through one set of lights and take a right on Airport Road by the car dealership (Central Maine Motors I believe). It's down on the left in a Metal building. Below is a map link.

I hope you have a great vacation in Maine, it truly is a beautiful place in the summer. Winters, not so much. I see you are from Mass, I lived there for 13 years out in Metro West and I worked in Westboro.

Don't know Koop. My wife is switching jobs so we had to move vacation plans up a month and haven't made proper plans. We're heading for Bah Hahbah , but we've yet to find accomadations. We were going to take "The Cat" to Nova Scotia until we looked at the cost.

I was in downtown Brunswick several years ago, and there was a quaint new-england-style white church in the middle of town. But something in front didn't look quite right; I swore from a block away it was a neon Budweiser sign. We got a little closer, and sure enough, it was a pool hall. It was closed when I was there, so I couldn't go in.

The wife and I stayed at an Inn right on the water. If I can find the name I will PM you shortly. It's a great time.

EDIT: Found it...you can thank me later :-)

Steve,

We stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn last year and it was really nice, but quite pricey as it was right on the waterfront.

We've also stayed at the Bar Harbor Grand which is closer to the center of town and was quite reasonable.

As for pool halls in the area, I was forbidden from seeking them out!

I was in Waterville all of last week. I play at TJ's when I'm in town (AZ'er "Creedo" recommended it.) It's a nice friendly place with good equipment, mainly Gold Crowns. Summer is a little slow.

Steve, when will you be leaving? I may be up in OOB, a couple of weekends in Aug.

I'll be back in Waterville this Sunday through Friday. I'll probably be at T.J.'s most nights.

If any AZ'ers are in the area, I would love to meet & play.

BigKahuna here... I live in the Portland area and if you are going to be in Portland you will probably want to go to Spot Shots with 20 tables. There are usually some guys that are playing there in the afternoons and they open at 11AM. Old Port Tavern Billiards with six tables is quite a bit smaller but might be a place your wife might enjoy more. If you are around maybe we can shoot some if you can get out.

Mike Deschaine is not soft action by the way.

Ellsworth just before Bar Harbor will probably have more pool players than Bar Harbor. I do know a few players from up around there.

Sunday Evening?

I'll fly into Portland on Sunday afternoon. I'd meet you there if you'll be around.

New place opened not long ago in Ellsworth just outside of Bah Habba. Called Downeast Billiards. It is next to the LL Bean store right on the main strip. Decent tables and food. Reasonably priced as well. I'm north of there an hour. I may be interested in getting together depending on timing. Shoot me a pvt if you want to.

I would love to visit maine. Do you think there are enough pool players who would be interested in a Exhibition or pool school there with Johnny and Nick? We won't be far away and I will get to go and have some lobster :)

I'm sure there are enough players across the state as the APA is huge in Maine. Whether they know who Johnny and Nick are is another story. The MAJORITY probably dont lol. Sad to say but true. Love to see it happen in Maine as I would certainly be there.
