Where to play in St. Louis

I am going to be in St. Louis for a week for work and wondering where the players hang out in St. Louis. I haven't been playing so I am not looking for action, but would like to watch some.
 
I like Sportscenter in Affton - but it's got a lot of loud younger people. Affton Billiards is a little more 'grown up', but it's not very busy. The Break over by Pop's in Sauget/Cahokia is more of a serious pool hall - with a bar.

Pink Galleon is okay, but pink chalk/cloth gets a little annoying. At least there's a bar.

There's a number of places across the river, Granite City, Fairview Heights, O'Fallon.

There is no action in St. Louis...

It is sad to see a city of its size with virtually no action and empty poolrooms...
 
There's no real big action, that's true - but most people are friendly enough you can pass the time on the table without worrying about action.

Apparently, after St. Louie Louie died, this town dried up to almost nothing.

The town dried up to nothing when they started putting river boats up and down the Mississippi and then casinos on every corner...;)

Watchez can shed light on this for you....as he is one of the last real members of the STL Action Elite Club...:thumbup:
 
There is no action in St Louis. You can however play at all the locations mentioned above. My recommendations:

The Break - Cahokia, IL (small chance of action)
The Billiard Club - Granite City, IL (one block from my work)
Teachers Billiards - St Charles, MO (decent bar, reasonable crowds, rare action)
Third Base - St Peters, MO (Saturday free pool and tournament)



The good players from 10 years ago don't play anymore and the young guys either only want to play poker or steal easy money.

Thanks for the tips. I will try to check a couple places out close to my hotel since I won't have a rental car.
 
Come on, Tom! I'm betting your cues haven't seen the light of day for some time. Why start now?

You are right there, I don't think they have moved since the last tournament I played in Beloit in Jan. I might have to download some instructions on how to put them together. :)
 
Action drying up had nothing to do with Loiue dying - although it would be great if he was still around.

1on1 is 100% correct. Once the casino boats came to town, pool was done. Pool players dont even work at the pool rooms anymore - they all work at the casino as well.
 
I wasn't around here when he was, so it's just hearsay from an older guy that works at sportcenter - "chrystler joe". we were talking about how pool is so dead in this town and he mentioned that no one comes through town since louie passed. i've no doubt the casinos played (and continue play) a big part of it... most of the older players i run across all say they'd rather be on the boat than the table. doesn't make sense to me, but... i'm pretty new to the game, and i don't get off on video poker.

There is virtually no action in St. Louis.

Your best bet, for an enjoyable and nearby pool fix, is The Break in Cahokia -- from downtown, maybe a 7-10 minute cab ride (mit strip clubs in between). Next best would be Baxter's, also across the river from The Arch, maybe a 20 minute cab ride up the hill to Fairview Heights. Forget about everything else, unless you want to see the same three guys, pass the same $100 dollar bill, back and forth between each other on a gaffed up table :-)

It's not quite that bad! there are several places with good tables... but still no action that I'm aware of. lol
 
is there a place called on the rail???? when coming from the break you cross the river and take the 2nd exit and go south 3 or 4 lights??? ZZ Brock

Andy Quinn hangs out at Cardinals Sports Bar off of Lindbergh and 270
Terry Huelsmann owns the Break in Cahokia.
Action can be found in Wright City at Danos in Wright City
There is usually action at Ride the Rail on Telegraph in South St Louis
Teachers on Thursday is where most of the higher ranked players in STL play league and gamble.
Baxters in Fairview Heights you can get all the action you can stand.

If you are looking for some serious action, drop me a PM and let me know the amount you will play for, and what your favorite game is.

Remember, the city dog SPOT was ran over and had to be euthanized just a couple of weeks ago. But there is plenty of heads up action, the game of your choice. Enjoy the Gateway City.:eek::eek::eek:

There are not many 100 or 200 sets, but you can get some 5000 a game action, 10 ahead for 50K depends on your bankroll.:eek::eek::eek:

I am sure they will take it easy on him, Crump first then Andy.

Well, the guy said he was going to be downtown without a rental, so that automatically limits his choices...

Still, I think you'd have to admit that there is a pretty gaffed up "money table" in St. Louis that even many of the regulars there despise.

Doesn't Teachers also have a pretty good weekly tournament friday night? I haven't been, but I want to say that I heard it's good competition with average-to-decent- money for a weekly.
