Which Case Will Hold Its Value? JB or Justis

I like my Jack Justis I have had it for years and it is still in great shape. I have never had a JB case. I have looked at a lot of them but never had one catch my eye.

I collect cues, but consider cases a utility item and those that buy custom cases are buying something most other people would not want.

That's not criticism, just my opinion.
 
I would guess that neither would hold their value if you use them.

That being said, both case makers are GREAT!

Each has their own "earned" reputation.

I agree cases are luggage , for carrying or storing cues , I have no issue dishing out a couple grand on a cue that catches my fancy but you would be hard pressed to get me to drop more than a $150 on a case , just my opinion as I am not a case guy

I understand this thinking. But, why NOT buy something ONCE that you like and will keep a lifetime???

I must admit this strategy did not work well for me! They came out with break cues and my 1x2 fellini went away. They came out with jump cues and my 2x4 george no pockets went away. They came out with cue extenders i.e. hager and my Instroke 2x4 went away. I have evolved to a 4x8 soft case by Gil Castillo that i really LOVE and designed!!!!!!

I plan to keep the couple GEM cue cases that I have stumble onto over the years and you will be prying out my cold DEAD hands and this Castillo case and a black 2x4 Hager case with backpack straps are my favorite hard case and favorite soft case.

I got a JBcase prototype case with a ton of pockets that I like for the bar scene and got my rugged 4x8 for storage and bars.

Well, I've made money on every single Justis case I've ever bought - about 6 or 7. The last one I more than doubled my money, from a $500 cost to over $1000 sale (held for 9 or 10 years, unused). If cases can be investment grade, Justis and the original Flowers JEF cases are them. Justis has a very strong following and are easy to sell. I still have a couple of his old cases and one of his very early "Toots" cases.

As far as JB Cases, they are superior quality and I believe will hold their value for many, many years. If John were to quit making cases, their values would escalate. Many of them are functional, practical art in my opinion. My current case is a JB Mason (which I absolutely treasure) and I retired my old 1990's Justis (which I also treasure) so I wouldn't damage it.

I've always considered it easier to make money on cases than cues. I bought and sold many Fellini's and George cases at a profit. There is always demand for a quality case. I have a number of old Jay Flowers JEF cases which are rarely seen anymore.
