Which city is the best in the world for pool in 2024?

houston has it all concerning billiards in general

huge pool crowd, league players to tournaments to bangers to action sets from 5 a game to 40k a set

huge amount of carom billiard players and rooms/tables. from straight rail to 3c and they all gamble , large entry tournaments.

a few snooker rooms around town with riely tables

however no one definite place can answer the ops question

You asked which 'CITY' which implies ONE location thus the word 'definitive' and my reply. Bunch of good cities but not one that just rules over all. As far as action goes right now its New Orleans hands down. BTW, your first post reads like it was done by AI, is this another justnum account????
yeah the point of this was to learn more about pool culture and cities - as i said im a new player and have really enjoyed the game and all the people ive met. This wasnt meant to say there is one city that rules all others in pool. To quote my post "However, I wanted to get others perspective on the subject. Where are other great cities?" - never asked for a DEFINITIVE Answer - was looking to learn about other places to visit. Not sure why you seem to have a problem with that....... And no... this is not AI? what??

Just go to Buffalo's in New Orleans. If you are seeking action you can usually find it there. Could be a long trip back to New York with empty pockets though.

First post!

I am a new player, but have fallen in love with the game in the past year. I am based in NYC, where there is a ton of opportunities to play. Between the leagues at the big halls in manhattan - Amsterdam Billiards, Society, New York Cue Club - as well as a plethora of bars with tables that host their sets of locals that are looking to battle - there is no shortage of games. From my apartment, I am within 20 minutes of the 3 clubs I mentioned above, and am walking distance from about 6 bars where there is always a game. There is also a ton of great bars throughout the city, and some great halls in brooklyn. We also are close to some good rooms in jersey, upsate, and LI. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a member of the NYC community. Based on my experience of being able to walk to so many places, and have great halls close by, I cant think of a better city to be a pool player. However, I wanted to get others perspective on the subject. Where are other great cities? One con about nyc is it seems tough at times to get action. but thats just my experience playing consistently for less than a year.

Here is my answer to your question. The best city in the world for pool, is any city you can find, with good tables, solid folks to play with, and great food!
Good luck with your search...I hope it never ends.

Good first post. There is a ton of stuff to learn on here. Dig around on the site and you'll have a few months of good reading and advice.
is this another justnum account????
I was going to mention he hook up with Justnum, as I think he plays out of one of the halls mentioned...
Birmingham, Alabama ~ Roll Tide ~ LOL
RTR! A good enough road player could make a living just riding up and down I 65 between Nashville and B'ham and taking down weekly/monthly tourneys.

He has been playing for a year, do you really think he is looking for action?

By reputation, it is most likely Taipei or Manilla.

Overall, though, I think that league play is the backbone of the pool scene and here in New York City, we have a zillion leagues. Amsterdam Billiards has thousands of league players every week. In the bar leagues, I know people who play on four different APA teams on four different nights of the week.

Nonetheless, what makes a pool city great depends on who is evaluating it. For example, I do not see the action scene as defining a city' pool scene.

Good thread. Lots of room for interpretation.
