I'm wanting to get a new custom cue built. I have a mcdermott right now, but I want a true custom cue built to my specs. I have narrowed my choices down to Jensen, Mike Stacey and Woodworth cues. Any infomation on these cue makers and how their cues hit would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bryan..I purchased a Bender cue..All i can say is that Mr Bender makes one heck of a cue...Don

Of the three, the only one I have owned is a Stacey and it was nice and solid. Never shot with either of the other two.

I have had a Stacey and currently use a Jensen. They hit completely different.

Why type of hit are you looking for and how much are you willing to spend? I will say that the Jensen is probably the best hitting cue I have used to date.

I would really stray away from woody. HE makes a good cue and they hit alright but i would defintely go with a jensen, if those are the only three that you are considering. Jensens hit awesome. But if you don't want to spend too much money I would recommend buying a fancy sneaky pete or a regular cue from jack kompan. They're real cheap and hit great.

Cant go wrong with the playability of Mike Johnson's cues. Keep it simple for your first cue, the re-sell on these has never been great, so don't load up and then be unhappy. I've known Mike for about 15 years and couldn't tell you how many of his cues I've owned, they all play and are very consistent from cue to cue. He tends to get a littly goofy with some of his designs but his classic designed cues can go toe to toe with anybody anywhere. He is a true Szamboti disciple so the construction is tight. If you want a player, you cant go wrong with a Jensen, just don't pay too much.

For the price range you seem to be considering and prefer the hit of a wood-to-wood flat face style joint, I'd contact Andy Gilbert. If you would like his phone number, please PM me.

Out of those three, I would say Mike Stacey. Check my recent post I have listed for sale a custom to my specs Stacey. Bryan Mordt BCM cues makes a great cue similar to Stacey, more modern. Also in that price range Andy Gilbert I have to agree with cueaddicts makes a heck of a cue.

Heres a simple Jensen design. This Jensen was a limited edition Danny Jones/Jensen. no. 34 of 50.. the Danny Jones siganture on forearm.
Mike Johnson made the cue, Danny Jones was the world champion (Handsome Danny), the cue was his signature sneaky pete.
Proficient put a nice re-finish on it a few months back... the only Jensen that I have owned and it surely does hits great. FYI & gee whiz folder info.

Thanks everyone for the helpful infomation. Today I sent a deposit to Mike Johnson/Jensen Cues for a cue for him to build for me. I'm starting with a plain fiddlerback birds-eye maple cue with gray/silver stain, 2 shafts, radial pin, black mircarta joint, black leather wrap, black joint and shaft collars with silver railroad rings, black butt cap with the silver railroad wrings, the silver railroad rings set in small black rings at each end of the leater wrap. I cant wait to tryout it on my new Olhausen Table in my new game room! Ill try to post pics of the cue when I receive it.
