Which Way Do You Play This Shot?

I was down stairs doing my laundry and I rolled out some balls on the table and, wala, ended up with this shot on the 2-Ball. Just wondering which way you posters might play it. Going with a little inside and coming towards the 3B between the 5B and 9B? Or avoiding all of that and coming along the bottom rail for position on the 3B?

you forgot this option

Oh I think I like that. Stays closest to the shot line for the longest duration. Leaves room for fudge on the speed. The 5 ball could provide a a helping bump as long as whitey stays on the proper side. The speed to get to your red line end should be enough to clear the 5 in case of a rub or bump.
The Days of Thunder comes to mind.

Draw with low right... zero obstacles. With high left you have three obstacles; 7ball, 5ball, Side pocket

But either way is a very easy shot/position route.

One thing you notice watching pros play is they almost always go the path with the least chance of a silly mistake creeping in.

Here's what you do DCP. What is the best position / position line to get from the 3 to the 5? Mark that position on the table and hit the 2 ball shot a variety of ways until you hit that position every time. What you will find both is the easiest, best & most repeatable method.

Either option is doable. Most players may have a preference between using low outside spin or high inside spin, so whichever one you feel more comfortable using to pocket the ball and getting to the proper positioning zone is likely what you should choose. In this case, a skilled player should feel confident using either.

For myself for this shot , I feel I’d have far better speed control to get to my positioning zone using high inside and coming off the 2nd cushion (far side cushion) passing between the 5 and 6 ball for good shape on the 3 ball, but I’m guessing I may likely be in the minority here.

Put me in with the risk averse crowd here. It's the two-rail outside english draw for me. You always end up with something playable. If you miss your line trying to go over the spot, this shot can go very wrong. Two-rail inside english follow is pretty good here, too, as long as its a comfort zone shot for you.

Low right. Stun route has increasingly better error margins the better your CB/spin control is, but low right is overall safer and I'd pick it over the 2 rail follow route, that one has a bit smaller range of good outcomes.

Why do people want to risk ending up behind the 5? There's absolutely NO reason to shoot that shot.

Just sayin

If you know the shot, there's absolutely NO risk of ending up behind the 5..... just depends on what you want with
the 3. Just sayin.... ;-)

I think over the spot is the wrong choice for most players. Too much chance to hit a ball and if you hit a ball, it's likely to be on the wrong side.

I feel I would be most consistent across conditions with the inside follow.
@Bob Jewett and @sjm
of course if you miss your line things could go bad
there is at least a diamond spread for your accuracy to not hit the 5 or 6 alittle less to not hit the 9
if you can do the wagon wheel reasonably well you should be able to do this shot
if you cant
this shot is not an option
i would seriously consider this shot
@Bob Jewett and @sjm i know you both could do it EASILY!!!!!
if i didnt feel comfortable with it
i would probably choose the draw which eliminates alot of obstacle
but the high inside and low outside have you coming across the position line so your speed better be good

Sure, keep telling yourself that. I'm glad that you play better than everybody else in the world and never end up snookered. But hey, you know the shot
