Hi Guys,

Wondering if you could all give me some info on what wraps you like on your cues and the reason's why?

Torn between changing to a wood handle or sticking with linen or leather.

Thanks

I started with wood, I didn't think it was really special, it's quite normal. The first time I picked up a linen wrap, it feels great. So, I bought a cue with linen wrap. Played a few times, but the linen wrap is really slick, too slick for me. I can't get a good grip of my cue. I also played a few times with a used linen grip. It feels wet and dirty, don't like it at all. So I went back to no wrap. Plays great and still like it. After a while, I want to buy a new cue. Saw one with a smooth leather grip, good grip, so I ordered one. I think, a smooth leather grip is the best you can get. I've played with a stack leather grip, but don't like it. Feels a bit like cloth.

That's the first I've heard of that. What do you mean exactly?

It depends on what kind of stack leather you've played with. The one I've played looks like a trimmed off cow. It's more like suede.

I tried wrapless cues for a while because I just love beautiful wood and wanted to give them a try. The only problem I have with them is I'm always checking where my grip hand is because I could not tell by feel where it was the way I could with a linen or leather wrap. Part of my grip is on the wrap and part on the butt sleeve so I always know by feel where it is. But that's just me.

I am of the mind, that once one knows how to properly grip a cue, that the position of that grip on the cue should fall naturally, depending on the shot, of course. It is because of this 'philosophy' that a wrap drives me bonkers...I do not want the distraction of where my grip is at on the cue.

I do think you should have included other types, and let the posters vote for more than one entry (which it has an option to do).

Should have also included Cork, Stingray, Elephant, Rubber.

And Double Pressed Irish Linen is different from the rest, and has a smoother feel to it.

I have a slipstroke on some shots and the linen seems best for me. My hands are very dry and never get sweaty, even when I am dogging my brains out (think often) so the moisture is not an issue for me. One of my Gina's (the one in my avatar) has an elephant trunk hide wrap which is quite textured but my slipstroke seems ok even with that, I guess because of the dry hands. In any event, I think from a playability standpoint the linen is my fave. My older Gina has 40 year old linen and it has developed a nice patina over the years and remains in nice shape.

Cork is the best feeling wrap I've ever played with but hard to find anyone to do one. I know Brian Mordt does a terrific cork wrap.

Which Wrap Do You Prefer?

Dragon skin. Has the feel and the feed back of a wrapless and the look
of an exotic. If you want more info just check into my website.

Paul Drexler and John Madden also do a very nice cork wrap!

After having several of each, I strongly prefer wrapless or lizard. Nothing els will do
I've played with linen, leather, & lizard wrapped cues all of my life and I got a chance to play with a friend's cue which was a wrapless cue and I found out what i've been missing all these years. I bought a wrapless cue not long after getting a chance to play with one and I really like the feel of a wrapless cue. It's my new favorite cue design.

I prefer Lizard and double pressed linen. Just like the idea of a wrap, seems traditional and stylish and adds real character to a cue.

I think i will get a double pressed irish linen on my next cue, as it offers depth and character to a cue.

Thanks

Roy:) :D

hands sweat too bad for wood handle, Leather FTW, I don't have a stacked leather wrap but love the way they look so I voted for the stack. Saw some gator skin wraps that also look fantastic.

For the most part I prefer wrapless... but I recently bought a Frey cue that was re-wrapped with black Kangaroo skin... and I really like that as well. ;)
