thanks for any and all help

not sure what to do about sweaty hands, but i just got my first cue with a leather wrap and i love it.

I really like the tiger stacked leather wrap on my main player. I like it a lot!!!

I'm no guru but I would think leather wraps would help you with sweaty hands. Cork is new and I havent heard how they hold up.

leather

would it stain a leather wrap? dont they put a finish over the stacked so it feels like a wrapless? i like to feel the linen so i would think i would like to feel the leather?

linen is best for sweaty hands becuase it absorbs the sweat. it may sound disgusting but that is its purpose.

Its preference. My hands sweat a little and I use a lizard because of the texture. I wouldn't use a smooth leather if you go that route. If linen works for you I wouldn't change though.

You are correct John, linen does absorbe some moisture. But, the original reason for applying a wrap to a cue (and still is, for that matter) was to cover over an ugly handle.

I would do cork or linen. My hands sweat, had a smooth leather wrap and went back to linen. If you have the right person do a black on black linen and press it well it will look like leather.

Linen wraps are good for sweaty hands because the linen will absorb the moisture and later dry out after you stop playing. I don't personally care for lizard wraps and i've owned a number of cues that had them. They just don't feel right to me.

I have three cues and one is wrapless, one has a linen wrap, and the third cue has a textured leather wrap. My hands sweat if i'm not playing in a cool room and all three of my cues work well if my hands sweat. I think I would pick the textured leather wrapped cue as my favorite if I had to choose one of them, but I like the feel of all three.

I hope this helps......

another vote here for leather. my hands sweat rediculosly and Ive had leather, linen, lizard and wrapless... leather is easily my favorite.

Be careful with cork

If you go to cork, keep in mind that cork is thicker than linen or leather so they have to cut the wrap area deeper to accomodate the cork.

I'm looking to put a pigskin wrap in my cue, very soft, very nice.

If you can go to Valley Forge, go see Joe Blackburn. He's one of the best!

Good Luck!

Keep a Handtowel

I always keep a small handtowel in my case to wipe the grip dry periodically. Regardless of the type of wrap or sans-wrap. My current cue has a leather(calfskin) wrap. My Hustler Cue of course has no wrap. I got into a habit of using the drying of the wrap between innings as a sort of routine, just like chalking. My hands have always been sweaty and the handtowel helps.

Elephant is another alternative to leather. It is a little tougher and has a harder feel.

leather

i want something solid black so tell me what are the differences in the leathers, cow, pig, elephaunt, etc? i know i want a texture which one is better? alex brick will be doing the work so if anyone can give any info on his wraps i would appreciate it also.

If you have a chance go to a major tournament where cue dealers are present and try cues with the different wraps to get the feel. I am sure there will be some in Vegas, and know there will be plenty at Valley Forge.

I am sure if you go to a local pool hall you will be able to find players with different wraps and will let you try it.

It is impossible to know what a wrap feels like without holding it.

personally i like the feel of leather (pig) but like the look of gator or snake.... you can get embossed leather in either texture. win-win. Black Gator or Black Snake embossed leather. The Dawg Nutz.
