While we are on the subject, how good of a pool plaers was Mike Lebron?

Wasn't he part of the group that dumped the 91 tourney
sponsored by a casino..

The first and last time a casino took bets on a pool tourney.

The black eye that still exists for our sport

Yep, seems like Buddy missed a straight in 8-ball with easy shape on the 9-ball. The announcers kept making a big deal about the odds in that match and when Buddy missed that ball...every gambler in the poolroom knew what was going on.

No this was in Dec. - Jan. 89-90! Wasn't Tacony all Glass front building, and over the Walt Whitman bridge?

Actually, both Tacony and South Philly had glass fronts.
But Tacony didn't open up till like 92 or 93 and was over the Tacony Palmyra bridge.
South Philly on the other hand, was like a block away from the WW bridge, where you had that White Castle at the one end, the Sunoco gas station at the other, and Tony Luke's Sandwiches around the corner.

It was probably South Philly.
That's really the only place Flakes played before he quit.
That's where ALL the serious action was.

Lebron!

Superstar thanks for the correction, it was a long time ago, but l remember we got no action! Johnny was past his prime in my eyes, but he still played jam up one hole!

On the other hand who did! He was playing Cornflakes, and spotting him a Dollar bills length that Cornflakes could move the cue ball after every shot ( Hand Span )! He did not like that either!
This reminds me of one of Nick Varner's favorite stories.
Cornbread Red made a game with Cornflakes at the Varner room in Owensboro......Red got all the cash.

A few months later, Red came back looking for Cornflakes....
...when he walked into the room, someone said...
.."There's that cereal killer!"

I brought Johnny Ervolino to Tacony Billiards in Philly shortly after Mike Lebron won the US Open, and he did not want to play Johnny any one hole!
On the other hand who did! He was playing Cornflakes, and spotting him a Dollar bills length that Cornflakes could move the cue ball after every shot ( Hand Span )! He did not like that either!
I still think that he was a good player, or how else did he win so much, especially at a late age!
Wish all the negativity would Fly away! Just a short little story about the game we all love!

Wow, that's a strong spot! I can't believe any pro alive would give that spot to any other pro. How could Lebron not know the strenght of that spot.

I'm a C+ player and used that spot to rob several A and lower level Pro players....

A player of Flake's caliber would rob God with that spot.
