** WHITTEN STYLE (tribute/knock off) leather case ** low $$

Unfortunately not Larry, she is not much into the tooled leather look. The one I bid on eBay was a suede case that was a light grey and a light natural leather tan color.

Nice looking case. While I normally wouldnt post on a thread that is this derailed, I figure I would make a few comments.

1. Comparing this thread to buying a knockoff purse/watch on the streets is different. Most of the street pushers will swear up and down they are the 'real' thing (not to mention they are branded), and they are being your best friend selling you a $15,000 rolex for $20 dollars. I don't think too many people really expect them to be the real thing, nor really expect them to hold up to the same standards. This thread is basically showing off a 'whitten inspired' case. Ok.. a bit more than inspired, but the key thing is, it is not stamped as a Whitten, trying to pass off as the real thing.

2. Personally, if I had the cash to pick up a case this nice looking for the price of a Porper case, I would buy it in a heartbeat. ( currently all of my cash is being saved to complete my McDermott D series collection )

3. JB does raise a concern that anyone buying a knockoff case has, Will it protect my cues? If that is the concern, then doing some research on who made it and opinions of others who have used those cases would be in your best interest.

Nice looking case, and good luck with the sale :)

It's not Whitten inspired. :-) It's a Whitten ripoff. The case I showed is Whitten inspired.

You're right - the Whitten look for $150 is a no brainer combination. Let me ask it like this though? If someone offered you a car that looked exactly like a Jaguar for 1/3 the price - I mean exactly and the description was that it is "not as good" as a Jag wouldn't you be a little suspicious? Would you spend $20,000 on the Jag knockoff?

It's my opinion that as long as Dan and Joe Whitten's cases are a viable brand then that look ought to be reserved for them to sell at $400 or $150 if they want to. No one should have the right to just take it and sell it cheaper.

Of course anyone would want to buy it. People buy $100 Iphone knockoffs too and then ***** when it doesn't work like the real thing.

I always compare this to real world theft.

If someone steals your $1000 television and sells it on the street for $100 then of course the seller is guilty of theft and so is the buyer IF there is a reasonable expectation that the goods are not genuine.

As so many have pointed out to me - just because you can do something doesn't make it right.

Whitten put in the time to develop this look - they did all the technical innovation to get it right - and it's not easy to do this. They made the investment and for someone else to come in after and just take it is just wrong.

I have NOTHING against a company that reverse engineers a product and uses what they learn to build a better one. But this is not the case here. This is just a case of blatant copying of the look with no thought to making it better - and I can pretty much guarantee you that if we take ten of these cases apart that many of them will have some issues that can harm a cue.

Anyway, I have said my piece on this. I guess all I can really say is that Whitten is lucky that no one did this in a bigger way years before. It's their fight now and I don't envy them having to fade the phone calls from people who want their "Whitten" case repaired and the auctions from dealers who imply the same quality for half the price.

I get behind on answering the requests for quotes. A lot of times when I read the PM I am not in a position to answer it right away and so I put it away for later and one thing leads to another and several days pass.

No excuse really other than I am just disorganized. I will answer your inquiry now.

Just this morning I said to myself stop writing about cases and make them.

Yet here I am......... AZ is worse that drugs - got to read it - got to respond - and don't even get high off of it.

:-) My apologies - I stop typing now and get to your question.
