Who are the best shaft producers?

I had a beautiful Coker once. It had the best shaft on any cue I've hit balls with before and since. It hit so solid, and moved that lil white ball all over the table with the greatest of ease. I want another shaft like that. I see threads about hit and quality of cue. I even see full blown arguments for every different maker on the market. Me, I think it's all about the shaft. I want hand picked, cannot get any pickier. Where can I find the most solid hitting shafts on the market?

If I were you I'd be calling Coker...
I live 2 hours from where he makes cues, I have played with dozens of Cokers. I had another shaft fro that same cue that just was not the same either. I think (well at least from him) that was a one in a million shaft. I think Bobby Hunter puts out some quality shafts on a consistent basis.

There are so many cuemakers who turn out a quality shaft. That's why there are so many diverse opinions, and they're all right ! IMHO, to find that really special shaft, you have to get a little lucky, but your odds are greatly increased going to a good maker...Tom

is it possible to buy a shaft only from the likes of gina, southwest, sugartree etc and have it fit to my cue? is it advisable to buy its shaft for the meantime? (no job yet lol)

Contact Eric Crisp (Suger Tree Custom Cues) I recent saw a thread where he was commenting on have some great shaft wood. I am not certain, but I think he said it was Old Growth.

Call Edwin.
He has winter sawn already aged rock maple shafts.
Great tone, grain orientation and color.

Eric has the best wood there is, some of it from my understanding is recently cut and will need a bit of time to cure but man its good stuff, i'm sure he has some thats ready to be made into shafts now. He goes out and finds the trees and cuts them himself, then cuts the blanks out of the tree's and grades the wood. I have 2 of his shafts and wow they are amazing, they will get better over time. Like Bushka shafts I have a few that are lazer straight and are over 40 years old. Erics wood will be like that.

I'm sure there are alot more cue makers out there with good wood, like Barry Szam, Tasceralla(SP?), that have alot of old wood thats like vintage wine, not much left and gets better with time. Ernie-Ginacue has good wood too.

I'm just talking about the guys I know about, shop around its out there. I dont know alot of cue makers so this is just a small opinion.

IMHO those shafts don't hit solid to me.

I can't speak for the Z shaft but I have hit both the 314 and OB1 and think both feel very solid with very little deflection. Do any pros use these shafts?

but both the 314 and ob1 shafts are softer type shafts. thats how they were designed.

pros do use ob1's and 314's. i find more pros use ob1's out of their own free will than predators. i actually dont know that many pros that use preds. if u look at all the big names, shane, earl, johnny, rodney, corey, efren, francisco, wu, alcano etc. none of them use pred shafts.

I'm not a Predator fan, but that last statement is a little off. A ton of pro's use (or have used) predator shafts. Just look at the list of players, and big names are on that list too...

Me personally, I use a shaft made by Ted Harris and I really love it. Just ordered an OB-1 just to see how it feels, I'll let the board know

I play with a Cognoscenti cue.
I've tried to buy a OB1 shaft for some test and for curiosity.
First thing this is too light, so I put some weight on shaft for balance issue.
I'm trying and trying... at the moment I don't like.
The feel(compared to cog shaft) it's very low.
Good about squirt(very low) but if I try a shot with medium-long distance with medium-soft speed there is too much spin on cue ball and it goes due english side... it seem hard to predict also if I use very little english.
If I buy a shaft to reduce the deflection I don't won't also other strange effects..
Maybe I could find better situation with new cloth... I'll try.

So I suggest Cognoscenti shaft!

Pechauer goes to Canada to buy trees. They then do their own milling and curing to insure consistent quality. Their shafts are extremely good.

I owned a Pechauer and there shafts are excellent. The other cues that have tried that have good to terrific shafts are Steve Klein, Blue Grass, and Sugar Tree. Richard Harris, from my 'little' opinion, makes the best hitting shaft there is!! It is awesome. Sugar Tree is up there with the Harris.
