Who are the Top 5 Bar Box players

I_Need_D_8 said:
1. Jesse Bowman
2. Jeff Sergent
3. SVB
4. Jason Kirkwood
5. Stan T

or

5a. Ike Runnels
5a. Brian Gregg
5a. Mike Bandy
5a. Darren Appleton
5a. Tony Piazza
5a. Glen Atwell

* I limited this list to guys I've played every year in Vegas in the BCA or VNEA. I also assume you are talking about 8ball, since 9ball is a joke on the barbox. ;)

How in the world you throw out ten names of world's best barbox players and Dave Matlock isn't in there I surely don't know.

I'll stake Matlock against anyone in the world playing short-rack banks on a barbox.

It would be hard to bet against guys like:

Efren Reyes
Rodney Morris
Earl Strickland

Just because you don't really see them play on a Bar Box does not mean they can't...

As little as these guys miss on a 9-foot table...I would imagine they wouldn't miss for weeks on a bar box...

This is why its so hard to determine a top 5 bar box players...there are so many that are great...

NOTE: As good as Shane is (I have seen him play), rumor has it he would not play Scott Frost on a Bar Box and Scott would not play Shane on a 9-Foot (unless it was 1-pocket)....That being said....I can't imagine a top 5 player passing up action from anyone not on the list....

Scott Frost is a definate threat to run out a set on the bar box....but I would have to stop short of putting him on a top 5 list......(just cause there are so many that can at any time do the same thing)

I know one thing for sure....I am looking forward to sweating some of the action on the action tables at BCA this year....There were quite a few bar box specialists there last year...

You have a point, but I might go off betting on a barbox 8 ball specialist against Earl.

Although they are world beaters, they need to "spread their wings" so to speak to have an advantage over other players. Cue ball is #1 on a bar box. Efren might be great, I have never seen him shoot on one. All in all, I would put all my money on a road player that had to play everyone in bars on bar tables to get any money at all. Efren and Earl I don't think have ever had to do that. Rodney IDK?

With Earl's temper, the bumping into balls and getting stuck might wear him down a little. Could be a good bet.

Dick Lane is a great player. I saw him play the best three games of 1-pocket I've ever seen. Three games in two innings to win a tournament at galaxy billiards in San Antonio. BR, BR, B, run 7, play safe, run 1.

I don't think 11 BRs on a bar table is the most. There was a thread about this a while back. Danny Medina told me he ran 29 on a barbox in a ring game at Dubb's Pubb in Denver. Many witnesses. This was probably late 80's. In the other thread, people said they'd heard/seen even more.

Cheers,

Bzzzzzt. No, it isn't.
Show up at the Riviera in Vegas between May 9 and June 10. The answer, thousands of players.

Exactly.......The action tables were going 24/7 last year.

NOTE: I think that there are some the snub there nose at bar box because they have the image of the goofy huge ball, crappy cloth that has beer stains all over it, etc. etc....

In reality a match up of two good players on (good bar box) equipment can be just as entertaining to watch as 9-foot table.

ANOTHER NOTE: Playing on the Diamond 7-foot (whats in Vegas) is not really even a bar box...the pockets are loose yes, but not so much that you can bank the ball in from the first diamond like on most bar boxes.

Just give them a few days. They would handle it.

Years ago in Vegas Hopkins was playing at the Old Serene Room {a Bar} and for the first hour they were laughing their asses off. 8 hours later he had all the money.

Sadly, MOST!!!!

exactly

when you watch pool on your teleivision you will never see anything but a 9 ' pool table.
anything less is a joke. Real pool is played on a full size table. I know there are some great Bar pool players. I do not care. Make it happen on a real pool table.

You just compared bar pool to real pool

Some how somebody missed my post after the US open this year about Shane Van Boening torturing Scott Frost 9 games to 1 in a eight ahead set of bar box eightball. It was the most incredible match ( 1 sided though ) that i have ever witnessed. Frost had Mika Immonen breaking for him and it was rack your own, when SVB started off breakn and runin frost starts crying about the rack and SVB reaches up and turns off his hearing aid and goes to town . About 30 people could see that side of the place and we were all howling it was funny sheite batman. The next day at the open SVB told me Frost had beat him before playing barbox 9 ball even but I'll gurantee Scott don't want to play SVB no 8 ball.--Leonard
