Also, to contribute to the thread, Drew, a forum member on this board, has said that he can break the balls 40mph and that's about 80% for him. So he is basically saying he can break 50mph. If the search function were working I would post the thread it was mentioned. How strong is that?
Yeah, Ellin could bring down the house.Blackjack said:I have never seen anybody break the balls with the power that the late Tony Ellin possessed. His break was amazing.
Honorable mention: Jeff Deluna - Francisco Bustamante - Johnny Archer

Are you sure about this?Larry Nevel said in aninterview that his hardest break recorded was 31 mph. When I was at a tournament in Fort Wayne years ago, there was a speed gun on a table and people were clocking their breaks.Corey Deuel was King Daddy there and he was popping them at 27 mph.41 seems unrealistic??thedude said:I was watching a video of Bustamante on youtube a few weeks back, and the commentator claimed bustamante had the most powerful break, the cue ball was supposedly clocked at 43 mph. This is also stated on wikipedia if you look bustamante up... how credible that claim is, I don't know... but i wouldn't want to be hit by cue ball moving 43 mph!!! As I stated in a previous thread, my goal is to get Bustamante to sign the cue ball thats shown in my avatar... just so I when people ask what happened to the cue ball, I can say that Bustamante does have one hell of a break! (In reality, I have no clue what happened to the poor cue ball, I pool table was given to me and a set of balls were included.... and the cue ball was in this condition - I imagine it was caused by too much alcohol, and fire)
Then theres the quote by Ray Booth about John 'Cannonball' Chapman "when it is time for me to go, just lay me on a pool table with my head on the foot spot and let Cannonball fire that cue ball at me."
However, I never had the pleasure of seeing him break in person as I have Bustamante.
It sounds to me like a fairytaleDeadPoked said:Ok... I take back my last statement. I just realized the Search feature is down. So please disregard my last smartass comment!

thedude said:As I said in the post I don't know if the 43 mph break of Bustamante is credible... A commentator on a Bustamante match that I happened to be watching on youtube stated that bustamante had the "world record" w/ a 43 mph break, can't remember the commentator or the match(but it was a billiard club network video,) as I have been sick for the last week and a half or so and as consequence have spent to many hours at the computer! The only thing that I could find to verify the commentators statement was that this claim is also listed on Bustamante's wikipedia page, which I don't find as a reliable source either... The commentator when as far as to say bustamante has the "world record" for break speed, which I found funny... as if he's in the guiness book or something, thats why I tried to confirm the 43 mph break... the only thing i could find was the wikipedia listing(aside from an unknown commentator for the billiard club network.)
That would be an interesting thing for the DCC next year, set up a radar gun and simply have a break speed challenge.
I agree...I am not sure that the balls could handle that kind of speed really. The cue ball and 1 ball would probably explode on impact!Scottster said:KPH
