I have balls, cues, a 9ft table, a phone and could find some time this weekend. Now who do I call for lessons/tips over the phone? I know its not the same as doing it in person but it's all I could do. Thanks.

I dont see how you expect to get any kind of quality lessons over the phone. Surely there is someone in your area that can set up a time to come by and give you a personal lesson.

Actually I don't know what to expect. Like I said it's all I can do for now.

Call Hal Houle !!!!!!!!
As soon as I read the first post, I said "Hal Houle". With each post afterwards I would repeat to myself "Hal Houle". I was so happy to see your post. I'm glad it didn't take 2 or 3 pages of posts before someone came along with the right answer which is "Hal Houle".

I know of people from MA to CA that have taken lessons from Hal over the phone that have benefited tremendously. All one has to do is have a hands free device or speaker phone. The rest is easy. You're the one doing the aiming, shooting, & overall execution of the shots, not the teacher. Therefore it's quite easy to learn from someone (Hal Houle) over the phone if you're really serious.

There are quite a few regular az members that are solid players that have taken phone lessons from Hal Houle.

Do not discount the phone as a learning device in the game of pool. You will be providing yourself with a great disservice if you do.

There was a thread on here not too long ago about someone doing a phone lesson with someone. Sorry, don't remember who, but if you use the search function you should be able to find it...eventually.

Edit: Adding that I after a 30 second search I came up with....

Just a suggestion,

but setting up a webcam might be helpful and/or videotaping yourself for an "instructor" to review or even to review yourself and see what your body is doing when you aren't looking :scratchhead:

What do you feel you need to learn? Have you ever gotten any kind of instruction, books or videos?

Hal Houle

Hal has helped many people over the phone and is very generous with his time and advice. What is more, his stories and memories of bygone greats are well worth the time regardless. Learn an aiming system or two from Hal and have a pleasant conversation also. The best phone help available by most reports.

Looking at the information Bob Jewett, Joe Tucker, Dr. Dave and others have on the net and working with their posted instruction is time well spent too.

I use the little notebook paper reinforcements, you know the white rings that keep your notes from tearing out of the notebook. Anyway, You break and write the ball number on each one and shoot. When you are done, put the balls back and try again or rack and break and relable the balls. You can also set up shots that are a problem for you and hit them with different strokes til you see what works.

Hope this helps...

I've never gotten any kind of instruction whatsoever and learned everythingon my own. I've taken videos of myself playing which is down below in my signature. I took the videos to scrutinize myself and see what I could change. Among other things, I have a hard time keeping my elbow from sticking out and am constantly working on it. That and my foot placement. Those problems I have identified and am working on. But someone might have a tip to make things easier.

Another thing I want to learn or add is an aiming system. The way I pocket balls now is align the object ball contact pt with the cue ball contact point and shoot it like its a straight in shot. I determine the pts by imagining a line thru the object ball and overlapping that same line on the cb. I am not adjusting consciously for swerve, throw or whatever when applying english and mostly rely on my subconcious to adjust my aim. I know someone has a better way.

I guess I am looking for some validation if I am aiming right or if it's unreliable and try something else. The problem you see is I can not seem to progress lately and my game is at a standstill. So I'm hoping to pick something up that might click with something in me and help me play better.

????

I don't know who you should call but you have to much head movement imo............................

That's the first thing I noticed when I first saw myself on video. I worked on it but thanks for reminding me.

I'll check back in the morning. Thanks everyone and pls keep responding.

Once you set, nothing moves except your right arm from the elbow down. I watched the first rack and you have good placement and speed. Stop the head bob and you may pick up a ball or two in your game.

nothing wrong with the way you're playing. just focus on fundamentals--stroke through, stay down, and play better people. also, try slowing down a bit...
