who from tawian would you like, someone who could come out of no where and win it. in america we know of kung fang lee, fong pang chao, and ching shun yang, anyone else we should watch out for? will there be another thorston hoemann? what about the netherlands? alex lely, neils fiejn, and what about ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NICK VAN DEN BERG?

If Archer goes to the WPC then I like his chances along with Stricklands....However, Busta is hungry to win it............Those are my three....

Django is actually starving. In the Asian Tour now, not once did he make it to the semis, and on 2 instances he even failed to make it past the 2nd round!

I wonder what would be his frame of mind come the WPC....

I wanna say Alex Pagulayan but it seems he has been choking in Finals for quite some time. My actual pick for the winner is Efren, he's been winning everything lately and hes never a bad bet.

Personally I want Shin-Yun-Park of Korea to win it, that guy is great to watch under pressure. One hell of a shotmaker. Watch his match against Alex Lely in the final 16 of the 2003 WPC. Incredible!

Actually Efren did not win the BCA 9-ball, he was beat by.... oh yeah, Alex.

Check out Chinese Taipei vs the World

Silencer, in February, there was an event called Chinese Taipei vs The World. AZB has a nice article about it under "Independent events" with a data of Feb 12, 2004. Check the article out for a refresher course on the truly magnificent pool players from Chinese Taipei (Taiwan).

As for the Dutch, they're all pretty good, but I suspect only Feijen is solid enough to be counted among those with a shot. Nick and Alex certainly have their days, but the World Championship requires sustained excellence that they might be hard-pressed to produce. Then again, even Feijen's play was a little sloppy in a match I watched live at the BCA Open in which Tony Crosby eliminated him, so I'm not sure Niels in in his best form right now.

If you'd watched Pagulayan beat Efren, Mika, Rodney, and Francisco in order last Thursday in Vegas, you'd probably be pretty bullish on Alex's chances. He may just be ready to snap it off.

Hello Bernie,

Think its great that you mentioned the Dutch but please keep it quit because we want to be the underdog!! ;) At this moment Niels is the hottest player in the Netherlands but Alex Lely is a tournament player. Nick seems to be a little out off shape but we all know that when its start going his way he is unstopable.

Regards,

Berry

Lai Chia-Hsiung (2001 WPC semi-final), Chang Hao-Ping (1999 WPC runner-up), Hsia Hui-Kai (2003 World Pool Masters runner-up, World Pool League semi-final, Asian Game 8-ball champion and 1992, 1993 World Junior 9-ball champion), Fu Che-Wei (Asian 9-Ball Championships winner, ) and Lu Hui-Chan (1998, 1999 World Junior 9-ball champion) etc. are all top 9-ball players. But Yang Ching-Shun and Hsia Hui-Kai are still most dangerous guys.

My picks (in order):

Immonen - steaming hot right now
Reyes - no explanations needed, the magician
Yang - incredible shotmaker, cool under pressure
Strickland - always steaming hot at the WPC, no British audience to blame this time :p
Bustamante - "payback" time ?
Alex Pagulayan - can he change his frequent 2nd finishes to a WPC title ?
Rodney Morris - cool under pressure. A notch above the rest of the US players except Earl.
Oliver Ortmann - steaming hot in Europe, knows how to take titles. I think the Machine has retained his confidence after a long slump.
Archer - hasn't done well in WPC lately, but...
Hsia - has the talent, but does he have enough guts to win ?
Feijen - same case with Hsia

And many players who can take the title...

I'm hoping Bustamante wins this time around, but considering his poor showing at the Asian 9-ball, he just might miss the cut! Hopefully he'll snap out of his slump in time for the Manila leg of the tour and earn enough points to qualify.

I feel the big guns are gonna step it up this year... It's been a long wait for them you know.

I feel it's just about right for Efren to win his second WPC.
Archer, Mika and Earl will be there too.
Busta needs this badly, right time for him too to get the same respect if he wants to belong in Efren's class.
Pagulayan still has to earn his dues, so does Corey Duel.
Yang will still be the biggest spoiler... Also for Souquet...

As for the rest, they better step up I feel the big guns are here to reclaim lost glory....

good answers. it seems that germany is the strongest place on earth, for winning tournaments. but i'd like to see some great shooters out of underdog countrys. for instance, japan, they really know their 9-ball, i heard, they don't even know how to play other games! isreal, my country, they are into snooker, i was told, and should have strong form. the netherlands, obviously great shooters, can they take the heat? and how about alex pagulian and charlie williams, two great players, who never got theirs. johnny archer is hot, maybe he's peaking and ready? ching shun yang, is drooling. ralf souquet, is not dead yet. bustamante is ALWAYS a threat. thorston homann is not laying down, and is seriously thinking of winning it twice! what about tom storm of germany? kunihiko takahashi is brilliant, can he stay still and angry long enough, or will he be blown away? john horsefall can do it, he is canada's best player. johl younger of australia is really solid, but can he rise to world champion? corey dueul, can he get the rolls? fong pang chao, still dangerous, or ill? it will be intresting to watch to see how it unfolds, as you know, i'm rooting for the best, in my opinion that's nick van den berg. nick, get your head on straight!

And what about "Captain Hook" Mike Sigel !!!

I heard from a source ( Wich i trust ) that the organisation gave Mike Sigel a Wildcard and he took it !!!
Could he surprise everyone again.....

Hey, Mike Sigel is still a top player in the US. In 2003 he won a Steve Mizeraks Senior tour event (10k first prize). However, he has not played in any tournaments which there are so many talented players from around the world like the WPC. It would be great for him to go and lend his name to the game and he might do well (in the early rounds), but he has been away from this level of competition for too long for him to be successful at the WPC. I personally would like to see him play and play great.

My list of some of the possible winners

Alex Pagulayan: He finishes 2nd alot, but notice how he's consistently in the finals....he has the consistency and skill to pull it off.

Efren Reyes: you know why

Chin-Shun Yang: He's finished 5-8th the last few years, monster break with incredible shotmaking, most dangerous player in the whole thing IMO.

Mika Immonen: Consistent former World Champ, unstopable when he's instroke and feeling confident with his new cues!

Earl Strickland: Always near the top in WPC with experience under pressure, excels under the TV lights.

Johnny Archer: Still on a hot streak, struggled lately in WPC but he's just to good to play bad again

Last but not least...

Oliver Ortmann: Yeah you heard right, this guys doing in Europe this year what Archer did in America last year, a former WPC himself has something to prove after last year, if he plays well on the TV games look out....

And that was a heck of a match! Hill-hill, down to each of them playing safes on the 8 ball. Alex cuts in a thin one to get to an easy nine. Alex hugged Efren after, laughing as if to say he was sorry as Efren tried to disentangle from him. Then Efren, after getting his stuff together and walking away, grabbed the moving cue ball that Alex was shooting cross table (messing around) and threw it at him with a bounce pass off the table. Big laughs from the crowd.

If I had to take a stab at it, I would say Mika has a very good chance. Alex is playing really well since becoming a father and of course Johnny is a bad mo-fo. I watched Efren play in Vegas and he just wasn't himself. Same with Bustamante. But it wouldn't take much for one of them to turn it around either. When is the World championship? Someone should start a thread where everyone picks 5 players and whatever place they finish is the score for the player. The person who has the lowest total score of there combined 5 players wins>might make it interesting. I would say everyone throw in $20 but that would be tough to collect.
