Who does the best refinish?

I have an old custom cue laying around from many years ago... and it has definitely seen better days. Kicking around the idea of having it refinished, and who I contacted that i wanted to do the refinish said they wouldn't refinish a cue that was not made by them.
Said something along the lines of "there is no way to predict what is under the original finish, and we won't be responsible for what the outcome may be"

thoughts on top refinish jobs?

was just perusing their website... and i must say, i am rather impressed... i also was looking at their order form... 85 bucks? is that right? That is way less than i was expecting to spend.

i think thats just for the finish on the butt, not including the wrap and the shafts and such.. you need to add everything up..

Do a search here to find many more positive comments about Scott and the work he does. One of the best things about using Scott is that cue repairs are his main business. He shows a very refreshing sensitivity to communication and customer satisfaction, and he seems to have a very acceptable turnaround time. If you use a cue maker for a refinish job, you are taking a back seat to all of his other priorities in putting out finished cues. Don't hesitate to give Scott a hard look for this work.
 
Scott has refinished about half a dozen cues for me over the last 10 years and his work is phenomenal and the turn around time is super fast.
 
If the maker is still in business and the cue is collectible, your best option from a value retention standpoint might be to have the original maker do the work.

I'm no expert on cue refinishing. Had my six windows Schon refinished by Scott a couple of years ago. Absolutely top notch workmanship. When he fell behind his "promise" date, he called me. He was not satisfied with the clear coat and wanted to do a few additional coats. I've tried to photograph the cue. There is just no way to show the depth and clarity of the clear coat. The cue shines!!!! On a scale of one to ten, his work is an eleven!!!

From an average Joe citizen, thank you for your service to our country. Hope i get an opportunity to meet you. The beers and the pool are on me!

thanks for all the kind words everyone. I was initially going to have the cuemaker do it, but it seems he kinda fell off the map, and i am unable to get ahold of him. As far as value goes, it would likely only be worth 200 or 300 hundred to anyone but me. It is a simple plain jane ebony and curly (in the wrap section) with a predator 314 shaft fitted (precat). It was made by Glen Graham in Tucson.
While I was stationed in Arizona I made several trips up to Tucson, and became what i would consider rather good friends with Glen. But he actually let me HELP in the making of this cue. So it holds a pretty special place in my heart.
The number that I had for him is no longer a good number, and I no longer have a good email address for him. So if he is still around and kickin' i wish him my best!

But withouth continuing to ramble on, I will get in touch with Scott. Sounds like a good route to go.

I think scot is your man, jay. He fixed a shaft of mine and I could not tell there was ever a dent in it in the first place.
 
Scott restored an old Palmer I have just last month and I almost cannot believe the results. The cue was so beat down and now looks like new. I wouldn't hesitate to trust him with any project.
 
Last year I had Scott repair and restore a period finish on an old double-butterfly cue from the 1920s or 1930s. I got it back in about 2 weeks and it was perfect. It was hard to believe it wasn't the original finish. I've never heard a bad word about Scott or his work.
