hey, i'm curious to see which cuemakers on here uses the design of the cue to balance and weight the cue.

Depending on the type of cue I think just about everyone does. Ive seen Tad and SW without a bolt. Sw uses exotic woods that are heavier. . When I make a 4 point cue ebony into maple with a ss ajoint bolt and a ss joint the butt turns out around 14oz. I like my buttsection to be in the 15.3-15.5oz range

Depends entirely upon the weight of the materials used and the desired final weight and balance of the cue.

I dont think I have seen a weight bolt in any Duffren house cue but if you taper one down to a slimmer, more desirable butt diameter then you most likely will need to add one.

Perhaps you are suggesting that a cue without a weight bolt might play better.
Actually it makes no difference at all ... except that it is gonna cost ya to add a weight bolt to a cue that has not been drilled and tapped for one.

Powdered tungsten and epoxy work fine .
Unless you like to tinker with your cue's weight after.

A maple front, brass pin and purpleheart/bocote handle gets to 19 oz with bolt easily.

Just like Willee stated....

It all depends on the materials used and the target weight you are trying to achieve....

I have found that Bubinga is the only consistant wood I have used and are able to hit the target weight dead on the nose without having to add a weight bolt to it... it also balances out very nicely with the ebony handle and I've been very fortunate not to have to add one more varible in the harmonics equation....

i don't use weight bolts.i have heard to many of them buzz over the years.

i bought an Omega DPK off a guy for $500 b/c he thought the a-joint was buzzing.i took out the weight bolt to check and it still buzzed, but there was another weight bolt underneath.snugged it up and the cue was good as new.
