When I first started carrying a set of centennials to the pool room everyone looked at me like I was nuts but over the last few years I have noticed an increase in the number of people bringing their own sets with them.....

Was wondering how many AZers did the same or play with someone who does......

Take my own all the time. Have a set of Centennials and Aramith Pro's I carry in a Delta case w/Delta rack. Hate to shoot with dirty mismatched junk. Check all pockets before you shoot, sucks to find your balls all nicked up before you leave. Brian.

I take my own all the time also. Cant stand the house balls.....they may be clean....but they sure are not polished.

I made my own ball polisher for about $30 and use it.

when i lived in central america i carried my own set of centennials,,,,now i do not as the pool room where i shoot, even though the tables were recently recovered, has nails protruding from the pockets so the set would not last very long. the other night i overheard a guy telling management to change out the 10 ball as it had, not a nick mind you, but a hole in it causing him to miss a shot. otherwise i would be carrying my own again, nothing like shooting with nice clean balls!

I have my own set of Centennials but I don't have to take them to Stixx and Stones. The staff there cleans every set of balls at least once a day, if not more. That Ball Star gets a work-out, for sure. And the tables are always clean, too. They do maintain their equipment quite nicely. We'd be over there a little more often but it just seems like a trek to get there.

I'd only bring my own if I knew the house balls were in seriously bad condition. But if that was the situation, how good could the tables be? And then if I use my own, I would not be getting used to house conditions the way I should be. Plus, you would be killing your action. And if you have a handicap, it might spike upwards.

More players bring thier own balls as they find out how much good clean balls can do for your game. Also most poolrooms are cutting corners to stay afloat.

I just bought a set on here that I might leave at the pool hall, I don't have room for a table right now so they can stay there until I can convince the boss that I'm feeling a bit 'cramped' at our current house.

JT,
On the flip-side of the coin, if rooms don't maintain their equipment that's when they'll start to see their business decline. IMOHO It's hard for me to see a room not maintaining their equipment. Now I can understand it if they aren't able to recover their tables every six months or a year, or as needed, but not keeping them clean is uncalled for. :)

I take my set unless the pockets have nails sticking out, but unfortunately this seems quite common. I play a lot of 1 pocket and shoot a lot of shots pocket speed, this is disastrous when the contact point is not "clean".

I know quite a few players who leave their balls at home. Sometimes I wonder if they even have any balls at all.

I have my own set of Aramiths that I take. Since I started that at least one other player is doing the same. While the house balls are polished they have 300K miles on them -- you can really detect the difference when racking and can feel the amount of room between the balls and the rack. And there is also the issue of all different size CBs...

A year ago I bought a new set of Amamith Tournament balls for my home table. I kept them polished and I started bringing them to APA matches. We used them about 3 weeks and one other week the other team insisted on house balls (they assumed we were used to new polished balls). Actually the opposite was true. Our SL7 ended up telling me he did not like to use my set. He was used to dirty balls that threw a lot. To test how much difference there was, I took my set to the bar we play at and set up half ball hit cut shots with each set. There was enough of a throw difference to convince me to never polish my own set at home, so I'm better replicating league conditions.

I bought this set when I started back playing and just leave them at the poolroom. The sets there are 2 1/8" and very old. I couldn't get use to the different colored balls so, I had to buy the right colored 4-7 and 12 ball. I have the better players ask me all the time if they can use my set.

Most of the rooms I go to have good balls and they change when needed.
But I have Aramith Pros and Centenials for rooms that have club balls...
...the kind you get on Valley bar boxes.

But I use mine for solitary practice only....
...I don't want ANYBODY bustin' my balls.;)
