Who has real nice brown phenolic like this?

the problem is you wont knnow what it looks like until its turned. its deff atlas mahogany bc i dont like it at all. i bought it and gave it away. all natural or borwn has streaks until it gets dark with age. no matter how dark it is on the outside it will turn then cut. then about a year later it will darken up and be more consistant. i have about 4 different materials in brown/natural and all are the same

Is that a balata T-100? If so almost as old as the phenolic.
You know the sad thing is that Nappy never got to set up the table in the Kremlin and play a game, as he had planned. The snow got too deep and the heater didn't work. :mad:

That is what I figured. One thing I don't understand is that wouldn't the finish protect the cue so that nothing will be come discolored? How is it that this material will darken over time?
 
I heard the same exact thing when I was getting a cue made before that it will darken up with age ! Well it did and I just went to get another shaft made the other day I got it and it is totally lighter then my cue now. I had forgot what he told me when I had one made. The cue maker said about 6 months maybe it takes to get darker. I didnt understand this with already haveing finish sprayed over it and sealed.:confused:<<,ED
 
i believe it's because not all finishes are UV resistant, in which case it will darken over time. that's what i've been told at least.
 
I'm checking with Jim to see what he used. The material was fairly dark when the cue was new and has gotten noticeably darker in the past year and a half.

Jim confirmed that he used the Atlas mahogany linen phenolic on my cue pictured in this thread.
