Sure! And I'll spot you the 10. That means if your on the 9 ball, I get to pull out the 10 and put it anywhere I want. Then you have to make the 10 to win.

drivermaker said:OK, here's a good comparison. SJM, you ran 7 racks in 9-ball and just over 90 in straight pool, so maybe the equivalent would be 8 or 9 racks of 9-ball for a 100 run in straight. What do you think? (all in all, I guess you can't make any direct comparisons)
There's no doubt that 5 pack runs in 9-ball are far more common than 100 ball runs in 14.1, just by the small sampling of players here on this forum. It's not even close.
i'll_bust_you said:Apparently anyone on this board can run threes with ease. Just out of curiosity are these practice time runouts?? Area all these phantom 6 packs to close out a set for the cheese? If any of you go to the open watch your favorite player in a few matches and see how many sixes they put on they're opponents. I would wager that a large majority of the posters can't beat the nine ball ghost much less run fives...Just trying to stir it up...

So who has run 5 racks or more in 9-ball at least once in your life. I'll be the first to raise my hand and wave it wildly saying "I HAVE...I HAVE"! QUOTE]
I am a member of that club. I have run 6 racks, more than once. I ran 6 racks of 8 Ball on a Bar Box, in league play, my opponent never got a shot. I also have run a 100 points in Snooker, dozens of times, 20 years ago.
As the days go bye, my runouts become fewer & fewer, my eyes are gone & glasses are a poor substitute. Now my knees are gone & I have to face surgery. There are no "old" champions... Have fun while you are young.

Everyone else may say it involved a little luck, but as for me it involved a LOT of luck.drivermaker said:Everybody...or else they'd be lying!

macguy said:A hundred is kind of high but if you lower the number a little I think there is a more likelihood you would run balls in straight pool then run racks in 9-ball. Most any half way decent straight pool player can throw out the balls and in a short time put together some good runs, maybe 70 or 80 balls without a lot of trouble. That is because it is a game of know-how and if you "know how" you can do it, with a few good rolls and a little luck here and there you can run even more. With running racks in nine ball there is just too much luck required to run racks at will. First you have to make a ball on the break to even continue then need a workable shot. I doubt it is an even money bet to make a ball on the break 6 times in a row, now add to that you need a spread that can be run and the odds against running very many consecutive racks would multiply. I think it is much harder to run 5 or 6 racks then say run 80, 90 or 100 balls in straight pool by a good player. I would bet that if you took a top straight pool player and a top 9-ball player and had them compete in a contest like this. Each gets an equal number of attempts in their game to 1, the 9-ball player has to break and run 6 consecutive racks of 9-ball, and 2 the straight pool player has to run a 100 balls. The straight pool player will win easily. He might run the 100 his first try while the 9-ball player may be there all day and the next and not run the 6 racks.

I'm with the previous poster, many of these 5 and 6 pack posters probably would play the 9ball Ghost and go bust.
