Who is going to win the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship?

From the matches you have seen so far, who do you think will win?

Based on emotion and favorite player, who do you want to win?

I think the finals will be Warren or Rodney or Johnny v. Earl. I think Earl is going to get there this year. He's been on a high since his new agent entered his life (again). He always did love this agent, probably still does. It might be the fuel that is making Earl's pool engine run so fine this year. :grin-loving:

The player I want to win? I can't pick just one, but I like Brandon Shuff,Shannon Daulton, and Chris Bartram. In fact, if any one of these three wins the U.S. Open this year, it will be a time for celebration.

Who doesn't love Tommy Kennedy? This kid is always a winner. If he snatched his second title, it would be so cool.

Sorry to see Monica Webb get beat by Karl Boyle and put on the B side of the charts. Karl is the one to watch this year. He's hitting 'em strong. Monica, however, is still in this race to the finish. ;)

Who will it be? Time will tell. . . .

My hero scenario would be Wang Can. Would love to see the little guy take down all the giants.

If Earl beats Ekonomopoulos, I like him to really cement his place in history with another U.S. Open. Let the deniers say something then.

A few days ago I was reading through the brackets, and came across so many names I was unfamiliar with. I love that when I checked it today and looked at the winner's side I recognized every single player there. Amazing how these guys just rise to the top!

I did the same thing this morning. When I saw the names on the winner's side, I thought, wow, I know these names.

I remember Wang Can. He played in Ultimate and Southern Classic in Tunica. He also accepted my "friend request" on FB. :)

Is it "Wang Can" or "Can Wang"? On FB, it's "Can Wang." Well, hopefully Can Wang can win!

I haven't been following the brackets, but...

How can we not have mentioned daz yet? He is a monster in this format and gets better as the stakes and pressure increase.

Go shuff!!! Our only vA hope left in the game.

Not much railbird chirping about Darren this year. Not sure why.

Brandon is in dead stroke, playing every day, so he just needs to keep his head on straight and move forward. I hope he does *not* go to Q-Masters while in this tournament. He needs to focus, get his proper sleep, and eat well. He can always go to Q-Masters at any other time, but not now, not while he's in the driver's seat. :p

jason shaw is another big hitter.

True dat. For sure, I have been seeing his name more and more in the headlines. He spells his first name as "Jayson," which is kind of neat. :)

With his break I think SVB will be very hard to beat. He beat a very game O Al Shaheen yesterday 11- 5. Shaheen made like 2 mistakes and still lost 11 - 5. The difference was SVB's break. He had at least 5 break and runs on a table where most others were having a difficult time pocketing a ball.

This is a very good point. That almighty break can make you or break you [pun intended] on a field of green. :D

Shane's next match is against one of my favorite, favorite, favorite pool players: The Fabulous Fabio Petroni from Italy.

Also coming up is Corey Deuel v. Rodney Morris, another fight to the finish, I'm sure.

Would love to see John Morra take it down...good guy with the right attitude and work ethic. Canadians Morra, Hjorleifson and Klatt all looking good, still on the right side of the chart. Go Canada!!!

There's a lot of heavy-hitters here from Canada doing well.

Klatt will have his hands full with his next match against Johnny Archer. :p

How unfortuate that Shawn Wilkie gets to play Matt Krah on the B Side. I know the two of them are good friends. All is fair in love and pool, though, right? I like Shawn in this one.

Charlie Williams v. Eric Durbin on the B side of the charts. Not a fan of either one, but if I had to pick one, it would be Charlie over Eric.

This is gonna be tough to pick. Not many good matches on so far on the TV table, most have been pretty lopsided.

Mika is shooting unbelievable, so he'll be a threat. I suspect he'll just get stronger battling his way through the loser's side.

Shane made several mistakes against a very classy Kuwaiti player. He can't keep doing that if he hopes to repeat.

Oliver Ortmann put on a world-class 9-ball clinic last night that was just breathtaking. If he continues this way he'll be practically unbeatable.

Wang Can plays a quiet but nearly flawless game. He will be there toward the end for sure.

I haven't watched Archer, Hohmann, Appleton, or Earl yet, but they will always be strong threats in any major event.

Who do I want to win this? Earl, naturally. It would be great for pool for him to really make a statement about state of American pool playing, and will put the fear of God into those Yoor-Ropeans at the Mosconi Cup. Go U.S.A.

I like the way you think! :grin-angelic:

That Oliver Ortmann is cute. I never realized how breathtaking he was -- oh, you're talking about his game.

Shane will be the man to watch. Can you imagine an ALL-AMERICAN finals in the UNITED STATES OPEN? Gee, wouldn't that be a novel idea! ;)

There are currently 3 favorites to win the Open this year, Darren, SVB and Hohmann. The lower half of the bracket is the weaker side, so Hohmann has an advantage until the 5th round until he and Daz will meet if they both continue to win.

As already mentioned, Wang Can is a monster, defeating the 2011 world 9ball champion yesterday.

Clearly, winning this event is important to any player. But I can't help lament how soft this field is. Without such superstars like Alex, django, Bata, etc, I realize some of the luster is missing this year.

Good luck to those remaining players.

Good observations. Thorsten has had a cake-walk so far in this tournament. He hasn't run up against anybody strong -- yet. His next match with North Carolinian Keith Bennett should not be taken lightly, though. Keith has been hitting the pool circuit as of late, so he's in dead punch.

I agree that the field is weak compared to other Opens. Players like Thorsten, Shane, and Darren have a bye and then only have to win two matches to get to where they are on the chart on the winner's side.

That said, it is a legitimate title, and I think the title may be more important to the players than the money. The title is something they will have forever. :)

How 'bout that Shorty D'Alfonso?! He gets a bye, then a forfeit, and wins one match to get to where he is in the chart. This year's Open is leaving the field wide OPEN, as its name implies, for anybody to claim this championship.

The cream rises to the top, as they say! :)

I would like to see Chris win it. If he hits his high gear, he can beat anyone.

You know, pool players in relationships seem to immediately gain another gear in pool competitions. Behind every good male pro is a good woman. I've seen it happen with Ralf Souquet and others. Chris is lucky love and just might be lucky in pool this year. :lovies:

Here's hoping he keeps it going! That would be so cool to see Bartram win this Open title. He certainly deserves it and has paid his dues.

SVB is going to be a strong contender, but i am hoping that Thorsten hohmann gets it.
