Who is making the best Break only cue?

I would say either Mezz or Predator. However, OB will be releasing their new break cue soon. As far as the custom market is concerned, I've heard a lot of good things about Alex Brick's break cue, but have never hit with one.

I don't believe there is a "best". Predator usually has the least deflection. This is important. OB also has a reputation for low deflection shafts.
You would do well to try some out, and see what feels best.

Tried Mezz, didn't like it. Tried BK3 liked it - may go back to it. Tried Brick J/B thought butt was too heavy and awkward - but loved the way it jumped (buying a brick jump only cue)- have a lomax jump break now and think I might move it for a break only plus cash - maybe a bk3 if I cant get other suggestions.
Thanks
guys.

one of my many regrets in cues was selling an original gulyasy sledgehammer, best break cue ever made for me. sold it as the shaft was warping, the old leaving it in the trunk trick. but either way if you can find one of those, id say take it. i have a gracio up for trade for one.

I prefer a light break cue, so i'll go with the Jester G10 even though it's a break/jump simply because I haven't found a better 'light' break cue that compares. I'm just not willing to spend $400 on a cue that was only $250 for the exact same cue last year, or I'd already have one. As for your question though, it is the best imho. Once you try one, if you haven't, you'll understand.

Break cue

Lomax makes a good break cue,

This may not be what ppl want to here, but its the mechanic not the tools.
And everyone has a different opinion.

I use a bk3 and love it. Because of the carbon fiber in the shaft and joint area it springs back very fast but has the bend needed if you break with that style. It is also the most solid hitting cue I have played with.

The only issue I had with it was the control with the phenolic tip which I switched to a samsara and the problem disappeared.

That being said you are doing yourself no favors by getting better at your break if you can't run a table. It is a bad idea to get good at breaking if you can't run out because you are leaving an open table for your opponent. I don't know your speed so don't take that as an insult.

Someone once asked Bert Kinister to give them lessons on breaking. As I remember it his response was to set up one of his pocketing drills for them. They made a few balls and missed and he told the would be student that he refused to teach them how to break until they could make balls because teaching them how to break would only be teaching them how to lose.

Although i dont necessarily disagree with your post one could also speculate that not being able to smash a rack open will make it difficult to ever run a rack if u r constantly dealing with a clustered table.

Me personally i use a lucasi jump/break and i thought it was ok until i put a white diamond tip on it not it hits n jumps fantastic so maybe it has as much to do with the tip as the cue itself

Gulyassy Anvil if you can locate one, he doesn't make that model anymore, it's a beast

Summit makes a great break cue also. They have a purple heart shaft and samsara tip on most of them so the hit very hard with great control. Ive seen some of their dedicated breakers for under $200 and their jump/breaks for $200-275. I know you said break only, but if you go with a jump/break, you'll never need another jump cue. I've been toying with the idea to have my cue maker make me a breaker to match my player, but I can't jusify it as long as I have the Summit.

What about Joss's Thorhammer?

I own one and I like it. You absolutely can't beat it for the price. The Joss tip is good and it has a really solid feel. I feel like I have much more control than with my old J&J with a phenolic tip. Probably the only break cue I'd give it up for would be a Mezz, specifically a Power Break II, but it's a little out of my price range for a break cue.
