Who is the most boring pro to watch

Let's face it, for maximum boring factor, only really slow players deserve mention.

On the men's side, the one I find most unwatchable today is the very gifted but lethargic Jeremy Jones.

A PBT player of the late 90's named Greg Fix was, in my opinion, the most boring player to watch of the nine ball era. It may be hard to believe, but Greg Fix played slower than either Jeremy Jones or Danny Basavich.

Basavich is an anomaly for slow play. I mean, he has a LOT of rapid motion for a slow player!! He walks around the table, he eyes the angles, he chalks and chalks and chalks, he strokes his shaft a million miles an hour in the air, then he lathers, rinses, and repeats the whole thing.

yeah my vote goes to Danny B

I love the lather, rinse, and repeat comment! Danny is talented, but painfull to watch for very long.

I heard that Danny used to play very fast (when he was younger and lighter). Can anyone verify this?

I can attest. Much much slower.

Danny's kind of fun to watch. He's so animated.

Id have to say the most boring player I have ever seen is Ralf Soquet. The guy shoots lights out, but man he makes the game look really hard and really boring IMHO.

Personally, I cant stand watching Jeremy Jones. With the powder, wiping the cue down every other shot, it kind of drives me crazy but hes a real friendly guy and a great player.

If I'm not mistaken, both JJ and Dany B have a condition that makes their hands really sweaty. Some guys are kind of OCD in some of the things that they do but I don't think that's the case with JJ & Danny B. I can't remember where for sure but it seems like I read something about that on here last summer.

I couldn't agree more. I love waching the pros that make everything look easy. I think their position play is fascinating. However, watching slow players can get really boring, very quickly. Even playing very slowly on the seemingly easiest shots.

Personally

I would like to see powder outlawed. The fumes from the powder smoke are harmful to my health .... lol

Danny was a little slow when he shot around here hustling, usually on the harder shots, but I have seen slower. He seems to slow down in big tournaments some. I will never forget the match where he made the 7 uptable corner and pulled back for the 8 in the same corner and the angle
was not good, but not that hard, and he hung the 8 in the jaws, and lost
the match when he had it won. He could have simply stopped the cue, and shot the 8 straight into the side pocket, but didn't.

I agree though the 3 min 50 second shot of the 9 ball in WPC was
completely out of line though.

When I think of slow, Dick Lane from Dallas comes to mind.

Anyone that takes real excessive amount of time for a simple shot
though gets on my nerves. Like someone that strokes 45 seconds on
a 6" straght in on the side pocket.

Danny played at last year's World Championships in Taiwan and when I was transferring the footage from tape to DVD, I passed by Danny's race-to-5 match from the Group Stages because he took sooooo smegging long that it just was not funny!!!!! The match took well over an hour with the last rack alone lasting what felt like forever! To give Danny his due, though, I spoke with Michaela Tabb after she returned home afterwards and she told me that he was very apologetic for taking so long over his shots.

The one person that I cannot watch, unless there's a shot clock on him (and I cannot stand them!) is Charlie Williams. Look at the shot, chalk cue, down, up, down, up, chalk the cue, down, up, recheck the angle, down, up, chalk cue, down, look like he's going to play the shot, up, chalk the cue, walk around the table, look at the shot (AGAIN!), down and finally play the shot. And that's when he's in a hurry! Geez-oh!

I think that howard vickery plays too slow. He is a good player and its a treat to watch him but sometimes gets boring. I believe that he is a very good comentator on the accu stats videos. THE ALL TIME WORST HAS TO BE CHARLIE WILLIAMS. Lock and load everytime then gets back up and does it all over again.

Danny Basavich...Danny Basavich...Danny Basavich

Danny Basavich...Danny Basavich...Danny Basavich...Danny Basavich...Danny Basavich...Danny Basavich

He's been on the hustle so long it's rotted his brain.

People mention Ralf but it's not warrented. Earl complains about him..not not about Archer? If Archer got paid for every ball he moved from this pocket to that and magic invisible lint removed he would have enough $ to purchase Microsoft.

I couldn't agree more...! Almost can't stand to watch him.

I'm with Jay and SJM on this one. There are 360 degrees in a circle, and Gregg would double check everything from every one of them on every single shot. It would get to the point where your butt would grow numb in the chair and he was still on the 4 ball.

Honorable mention: Bob Stichauf. (His slow play was immortalized by George Fels in his book Mastering Pool) he is quite possibly the slowest player to ever play the game.

Lillis

The Reverend(Steve Lillis) is certainly top ten material..After not picking up a cue for 4 years I had to play him at Ceasers in the 80's and it was sheer torture!! I wasn't upset to find out that he quit playing shortly afterwards..

slow play

Is slow play a form of "sharking"? I suppose if an opponent is a "rhythm" player, it would bother his timing.....Sometimes I wonder if a player is taking a long time just to upset his opponent.....I read in this month's Billiards Digest where Earl actually quit a match with Rolf over his slow play.....

he did play faster... and much different... i was talking to him last weekend and i was asking him about how he aimed high on the ball to draw it... he said he aimed normal when he was younger... i have seen him play fast it just depends on what kind of day you get him on
