Off the top of my head the following come to mind:

Chris Loar
Matt Clatterbuck
Jim "Shorty" Henson

#1. Matt Clatterbuck

#2. Chris Loar, Keith McCready in DC, Eric Moore, Brandon Shuff(if he lives in va)

the rest:

Larry Kressel, Pooky, etc......

Indiana

Josh Ulrich is the one I mentioned, but I don't know how well he plays anything other than tournaments. Just going by what I was told. Very good at 9-ball and 10-ball.
I don't think Denver has been playing much lately, But to round out a top 10

Jeff Beckley
Denver
Waldo
Josh
Strong arm John
And I'm somewhere close to that mix
There are a lot of unknown players thru Indiana who can be in there somewhere I'm sure. I don't get down to southern parts of the state or the far north. I don't mean to offend or kill anyones action. These guys are all pretty well known, so I don't think it hurt too much. Just my opinion.

If you are going to play all of the games, you have to include Gary Gentry from Evansville in your top ten.

He has finished very high in the Banks @ the Derby a couple of times (maybe the best bank player in the state). Plays "pretty" sporty one pocket (beat Joyner this year at the DCC). Finished high one year in the Lexington All Stars nine ball. Not to long ago he had a real high finish in the APA nationals. Has one his share of decent 8-ball tournaments.

"Pretty" nice list of accomplishments and I'm sure I am missing something.

What you are missing is knowledge of who plays bank pool in indiana ...

Well, why don't you educate me? I am sure we can set something up as long as your not talking about kiddie pool (nine ball bank) and play some full rack that requires a lot more skill.

I am listening.................

you won't have any trouble "setting something up" , I'm sure..........
I live in Florida , and haven't played in over 2 years , so I can't help you there....
I'm also not going to mention any players on their behalf.....
as far as the best bank pool player in Indiana is concerned , last time I lived there , ( 3 years ago) .....that person lived in Indy....

I don't know Gary personally

But I've heard a few things about his playing abilities. Hard to put someone on your personal list if you've never seen them hit a ball. Like I said, down south and at the top of the state, I'm sure there are some very good players that I haven't seen play yet. From what I heard, he may very well be in the top 10 in the state.

I respect your opinion and that is what it is, an opinion. (just like mine)

I think I know who you are talking about and he is a ball making machine, but again full rack seperates the men from the boys. I have seen that watching John Brumback for years. A whole lot of people can run balls from a 9 ball rack and can push these guys. Rack 15 balls and there is a world of difference.

I agree

It is a lot different playing a full rack, especially if they're safe breaking them. Then it becomes a game of strategy, kind of like onepocket. Someone who's a ball making machine, and plays good onepocket, would be hard to beat. I'm sure it would be a great match to watch anyway.

a guy i know watched gary run 8 racks of 8 ball in alternate break format during the arthritis tourney 1 year, i think this was b4 they moved it to the casino, he finished in the last 12 of the dcc banks in 06, also heard once that nick varner was trying to get gary to travel with him to tourneys but he had a good job and didn't want to, anyone that u talk to that knows gary has nothing but great things to say about him and not just as a pool player

the top player in lafayette has a lot of respect for sam, said they matched up b4 and also met in tourneys and he never beat him, i believe even when he was getting weight that's pretty strong

Good post!! :)

I had Gary over to my house tonight. We practiced for a few hours. He is a class act and always welcome in my home.

We also discussed bank and he feels he is open to play anyone in the state in banks if there is any interest. Let me know. We would love to match up.

Thanks, Jim Kissinger

Once I get my life settled again, I may just start matching up with some people. I love playing the tournaments and meeting up with friends I rarely see, but I miss being in action. It's just hard to stay focused for any length of time. It's a tough life being single again. HA HA!!!!!

I'm beginning to wonder two things:

1. If I am the only person from Minnesota on this forum
2. Who the hell the best player in MN would be. Anyone have any ideas?

It's not exactly the hotbed of pool up here, so I'm not sure how the MN list shakes down. In a nice dream I'd put myself in the top 10, haha.

I think that most people would say that Jimmy Wetch is the best with Lee Hewaugen (sp) close behind. However, there are some other top level players there, as well, that play damn good.

Thanks JDB! I'm a busy cat, so I haven't been able to get out on the road nearly as much as I'd like. I feel like I've lived a sheltered pool life thus far.

Actually, I think the average player in Minnesota is much better than a lot of places. What else do you have to do between September - May, during the winter...lol. I lived there for 2 years and don't plan on coming back unless they give me lots of money.

Another name that comes to mind is Josh Burba... a strong shortstop.

You should go to mnbilliards.com and check the tournament listings. There are a lot of strong players in MN.
