who is tor? Ive seen his sites, and videos but who the hell is he? is he as good as he comes across? what are his billiard achievements?

I met him once, seen him shoot a few games.

My personal opinion, he's better off making setup shots on a table for instructional purposes, rather than try to compete.

Does he come off good, really? He films a shot until he hits it right, then you see him hit it right, WOW !!!!!!

I never said his DVD's aren't good. Just my perspective on how good he comes across, is all.

Tor's video is awesome. I'll eventually end up with the kicking and banking vids when I play a little better.

I have no idea how good a player he is, but he is a very good teacher. Check out some of his 14 day videos on youtube and judge for yourself.

I played friendly games (8 ball) against Tor for a few hours about 6 years ago. I don't remember him ever missing a ball and he played phenomenal shape. I haven't watched his videos.

Take from that what you will........

Ive heard he is a great instructor, ive seen alot of his videos, but what is his true speed?

Tor used to play pretty good some years ago when he lived in Portland, Oregon. I have heard many complaints in recent years about his content being ripped off from other instructors. Hope that isn't the case.

Jimmy Reid has leveled multiple complaints on here about Tor stealing his instructional material and sales from Jimmy's website. Tor did come on here and defended himself, maybe someone can post the links to Jimmy's threads and then you can decide for yourself.

I've read the threads being referred to. Both from the accusers and his response. Before you propagate this rumor read the threads and his response(s). Pretty clear to me it was a misunderstanding on the accusers part and, from what was stated by both parties, Mr. Lowry was trying to do a good thing.

I agree with this. I didn't see any evidence that anything was directly copied, and I'm sure many of the basic principles are presented similarly by most all instructors.

What is your deal with "what is his true speed"

You've asked it twice, play him some, or wait, are you trying to see if you can get in and steal a few $$$

Some people can teach better than they play and vice versa.

Ain't that the truth. I purchased one set of DVDs. When I got the the Diamond System i was close to being embarrassed for the person in front of the camera.

It was a painful hour or so to endure all the, "you aim a 1/4" out, umm, err, ahh, no 18th",
no, umm, err, ahh, no, a 1/16th out.

And then, you have to pretend that you are holding a yard stick in your hand and holding it extended past the short rail and aim for the 2 foot mark on the yard stick.

But then, I can get confused easily anyway.

At least Tor can speak clearly and get his point across the first time when speaking in front of a camera.

I put the other set of DVDs away after I got part way thru the Diamond System and have never attempted to watch again.

Pretty sure that the next time out shooting skeet, if I run out of clay pigeons, this particular DVD set will come in handy for once.

Comparing the 2, I doubt that Tor ripped off anyones Diamond system. At least not that one.

I'll be filmed by Tor for "14 Days: The Great Pool Experiment" beginning April 15th.

I may not have time to document it on here as we go along, but I hope to write down a quick daily diary. Then, after Tor is finished filming, I can attempt to sit down and elaborate to fill in the missing blanks.

I think you will enjoy your experience Blue.

Before Tor got extremely busy with filming 14 Days, we used to keep in touch regularly via Face Book messages. If he is as personable in person as he is sending messages, I believe you will find him a great person to get along with.

I envy you. Tor had mentioned coming up to Canada at some point with the 14 Days.
Not much sense to come to my city as we don't have a hall any longer, but, if he was anywhere close, I would certainly take the time to pay him a visit.

I am pretty sure that there just might be a little creative editing in many of the instructional DVDs that are available.

They are bound to miss the odd shot and be a little sloppy with others. Probably edit those ones out, right.

All I know is that Tor opens his DVDs with him throwing 9 balls on the table, pocketing them nicely with perfect shape. It does appear that he knows what he is teaching others.

I applied for the 14 day experiment after seeing his videos. I don't know how anyone who actually plays the game can watch him shoot and look at his mechanics and the shape he consistently gets and think he can't play at a high level. Certainly high enough to be able to teach well beyond the basics.

It really sucks that he got such a brutal reception here on AZB, because it's pretty obvious to me he can transmit pool knowledge very clearly.

I hope he eventually comes my way and decides to pick this old geezer to transform into a good player. I'm right there with anything he wants to put me through, aching old back and all. :)
