Who is your favorite dark horse?

Greg, I forgot to ask did you say that you saw Jeong and Park out here in SoCal, or was it Jeong and Tony Drago?

I saw Jeong and Park. They were both down here on their way to the BCA event a few years ago. The owner of this poolhall down here is Korean and he knows a couple players in Korea so they stopped by.

Neils Feijen, The dude works his but off. My v cash on Neilsy

Great pick. My vcash is with Neils as well. He's got a winning attitude. He's had some high finishes (tokyo and usopen). He's playing well this year winning Viking tour and Planet Pool back to back. Maybe he'll put it all together for this one.

I practiced with Young-Hwa Jeong a couple years ago when he first came to the US. He was kind enough to miss a shot every third rack so that I could hit some as well. I look for him to finish high.

I'll also be rooting for Mike Davis, Max Eberle, Shawn Putnam and Danny Basavich.

TheOne who posts here might get a decent result. He doesn't seem to be scared of the big names.

Hui-Kai Hsia would be my dark horse.

My favorite to win is either Efren or Yang. I think it will be an Asian this year as every year there are more and more great Asian players participating.
Park is another I think will go very deep.
Also watch Chamat. The guy never seems to fail breaking into the final 16.

TheOne is definitely a dark horse. As long as he think straight and stay focus he would have a good chance.

BTW, is he the onle one from this forum thats going to the WPC?

My dark horse is Ronnie Alcano.

My first pick will be Thorsten Hohmann, because of his dedication and his efforts...

the dark horse would be one of the Wu's...

I think Parica at 60-1 is a pretty good bet.

just more hot air!

Sherm

Parica is not joining WPC. He was not given a wildcard nor is he in the WPC qualifiers.

I think Stan James made a mistake on this one.

With all the strong qualifiers making it to the tournament, any of the qualifiers is a good pick. I'm hoping to see Lai doing well again after a 2 year absence after his semi-final appearance.

Ordinarly, I would say Neils Feijen but he is in this year's "Group Of Death" - Group 12. If he can survive that, and I assume he will, then he could go a fair way towards the World Title. Add that he's a top bloke (he taught me how to pronounce an area of The Hauge properly and I'm forever greatful!) and you've got a winning combination.

For the real outsiders, there's Daryl Peach of England (yep, a Scotsman picking an English player!) who has been playing great pool for the last while. He has been having some great results on the EuroTour and I think he may just have a good week next week. This may just be his breakthrough.

Also, and this may be a biased opinion (OK, it is!), there's the Scottish representative, Michael Valentine. He is unbeaten on the Scottish Tour in the last year, is Scottish Number 1 and the reigning Scottish Champion. He also started to give Chao a fright in the round of 64 last year on the TV table before missing a 3-ball by half a diamond and not getting another clear shot for the rest of the match. He has taken what he saw and did in that match and has learned from it (at the expense of every other player in Scotland!) and I think he's a much better player now than he was a year ago.

To those who can watch it, happy viewing. To those who are there - you lucky dogs, I hate you all!

Best wishes

The true contenders for the title need not worry who they draw in the round robin. One only need finish in the top 4 in their group to get through to the sngle elimination stage of the WPC.

Feijen is a superb player and should have no trouble getting through his group.

But Feijen failed to get out of the round robin stage last year, and that was arguably a much weaker group.

I think any Taiwanese or Philipino qualifier is a good dark horse. They are already warm and running after those qualifiers...
