At first I kind of agreed with this post, because I myself prefer the more polite and humble players myself. However, upon further reflection, I do think pool needs another Rudolph Wanderone, heck...every sport does! Why?! Because, people love to have villains...we love to root against the bad guys, the blow hards, and the ego maniacs! We love root for the under-dog...we like to see the nice guy win...and it creates tons of "edge of your seat" drama! And drama appeals to a much larger demographic than just plain old pool...it adds a personal and human element that currently seems to be seriously lacking. A prime example of this, and like him or not is Earl Strickland! He definitely puts British rears in seats at the Mosconi Cup...and rears in seats, brings in advertisers, which means more money and more venues. Just a thought...trustyrusty said:Thank God EVERY sport hasn't had a Minnesota Fats....not everyone enjoys loudmouth blowhards. In fact, I like the exact opposite of him in golf -Ben Hogan. Or the quiet guys with tremendous skill and work ethic like Byron Nelson. Golf did have it's Minnesota Fats along time ago in the form of Walter Hagen, but thankfully he was before my time, and his type of character didn't permiate throughout the sport. I'm sure there are guys in pool that would equate to the golfers I mentioned (maybe a Mosconi), but I don't know pool players well enough to know who they are....

Oh and so as not to get to far off track on this thread...
Not accounting the excluded players from the list and sticking with those who are still currently active:
Rotation games: Archer, Alex and SVB
All Around: Parica and Harriman
Heart and Grind: Ortmann and Daulton
Demeanor: Souquet and Crosby
Well put him in the Fatboy tournament at the Derby, $1000 entry, 16 of the best players alive today. Let's see what he can do!BLACK JEF said:Justin MFN Bergman! Not trying to stir anything up either, just saying get him in. I know he won the Ring game at Shooters so he must be playing damn good. Sounds like he might belong in the tournament I mentioned, which has only 5 spots left!BLACK JEF said:Thats Whats Up! The only thing is that he has a Action match pending on the Action Report so we will see if that goes down if not than we will see. Hes just my favorite player not trying to stir nothing up. But if hes n action with anybody around me my doughs on the Kid Period!
Sounds like a player to look out for on the WPBA sometime soon! Great to see a league player getting recognized here!Milo said:Noel Campos. She won the womens open at the BCA Nationals last year.
