Who is your favorite player?

talent and ability, attitude, fan appeal, sportmanship, intelligence, character...sounds like Steve Mizerak.
Of those players still living gotta say Ralf Souquet

I've only seen the European players play live. I was blown away the first time I saw Konstantin Stepanov play.

Thank God EVERY sport hasn't had a Minnesota Fats....not everyone enjoys loudmouth blowhards. In fact, I like the exact opposite of him in golf -Ben Hogan. Or the quiet guys with tremendous skill and work ethic like Byron Nelson. Golf did have it's Minnesota Fats along time ago in the form of Walter Hagen, but thankfully he was before my time, and his type of character didn't permiate throughout the sport. I'm sure there are guys in pool that would equate to the golfers I mentioned (maybe a Mosconi), but I don't know pool players well enough to know who they are....
At first I kind of agreed with this post, because I myself prefer the more polite and humble players myself. However, upon further reflection, I do think pool needs another Rudolph Wanderone, heck...every sport does! Why?! Because, people love to have villains...we love to root against the bad guys, the blow hards, and the ego maniacs! We love root for the under-dog...we like to see the nice guy win...and it creates tons of "edge of your seat" drama! And drama appeals to a much larger demographic than just plain old pool...it adds a personal and human element that currently seems to be seriously lacking. A prime example of this, and like him or not is Earl Strickland! He definitely puts British rears in seats at the Mosconi Cup...and rears in seats, brings in advertisers, which means more money and more venues. Just a thought...

Oh and so as not to get to far off track on this thread...
Not counting the excluded players from the list and sticking with those who are still currently active:
Rotation games: Archer, Alex and SVB
All Around: Parica and Harriman
Heart and Grind: Ortmann and Daulton
Demeanor: Souquet and Crosby

I know that alot of people like to root against opposing people/teams when playing their favorites (or even when not). I happen to live halfway between Chicago and St. Louis and it's probably close to a 60%-40% split between Cubs and Cards fans. Most fans of either team root AGAINST the other team all year (not only when they play each other). I've never been one of those sports fans. I want both teams to do well (because, first - it's fun around town when the rivalry is good) because it makes the competition even better.

Another example, if player A and B are tied for the lead of the Masters going into Sunday and I'm a HUGE player A fan....I don't root against player B, I just want player A to outplay him. Maybe it's odd that I look at sports this way, but I think it's more fun to have both guys/teams play GREAT than to root for one to do bad or lose.....

I loved Richie Florence. What a player OMG. I like the colorful players that are exciting to watch with the talent and personality like Florence, Sigel, Strickland and McCready. But pure talent all around best ever has to be Efren Reyes.

Lee Van

Lee Van Corteza is my fave...Just smooth and laid back around the table. Awesome style IMO:thumbup:

EFREN REYES (so damn creative on the table)
ALEX PAGULAYAN (so animated as well as talented)
LOUIS ULRICH (awesome player with an awesome personality)
JASMIN OUSCHAN (aggressive and talented)
ALICE RIM (another awesome player with an awesome personality - also she's my sister so of course she's awesome!!!)

AND any player who is both talented and personable (on and off the table - there is a lot to say about those who can exude a winning attitude - whether they are winning OR losing.)

Justin MFN Bergman! Hes my Boy and the Kid can flat out Gin it! Tournaments or for the Cash the Kid dont break. If he keeps his head on straight he will be the next American Champion! Hes a Tender 21 with the ability and heart of a Champion! SVB couldnt hold his Smokes for him at 21 or his Budweiser in the can! JK Hillbilly!

Well put him in the Fatboy tournament at the Derby, $1000 entry, 16 of the best players alive today. Let's see what he can do!

Thats Whats Up! The only thing is that he has a Action match pending on the Action Report so we will see if that goes down if not than we will see. Hes just my favorite player not trying to stir nothing up. But if hes n action with anybody around me my doughs on the Kid Period!

Not trying to stir anything up either, just saying get him in. I know he won the Ring game at Shooters so he must be playing damn good. Sounds like he might belong in the tournament I mentioned, which has only 5 spots left!

So many to choose from!
And I kid you not!

With the exception of Efren Reyes,
my choice is The Lion, Alex Pagulayan!

:)

Cant pick just one...

Steve Mizerak...nuff said!!

Toby Sweet...smoothest push out player I ever saw and triple tough for the cash

Johnny Ervolino...his knowledge of the rack was unmatched

Steve Cook...relentless One Pocket Master

Honorable Mention...JG from KY
