who makes the best 60" plus cue?

just looking for opinions, i realise most cuemakers will make a longer than standard cue, any opinions on who makes the best hitting cue, and what their secret is? I want to try a longer cue, and i want it to hit just like my schon or better, but i need the extra length i think to be comfortable. And the whippy shafts you find on longer cues sometimes....is it the taper? Does the butt need to be 30 or 31 and the shaft the same, or a properly tapered shaft and a standard butt all you need?

Why do you think you would be more comfortable with a cue more than 60"?

it is the taper and also the length of the longer shaft that contribute to the whippiness. you will have to alter the taper for the new length.

the longer the shaft the whippier the shaft. i know a player who likes his cues with the shaft longer than the butt to achieve more action. i don't think there's one answer for what you want, but i would GUESS that a standard shaft and longer butt would get you what you need. why not get a cuemaker to build the longer butt and you just use a schon shaft?

The 60" I have for sale on eBay is the best I have ever played with. Nice thing about it, you would never know it was longer unless you compared it to another cue or I told you. It is so well balanced and has such a nice hit. Butt is slender, but also a plus if you are a Schon shooter like myself. Only reason I am selling is I want some money to put towards another cue and I have alot invested in my Schon already, so can't part with it. It also has a southwest style of taper...two shafts...someone is going to steal it if the bid stays what it is now.

Shorty

yeah shorty im the one who messaged you about ur cue on ebay, we talked about how slender the butt was because i wanted one that was thicker than usual due to handsize.
To jack, im not sure I need longer than 60", but im tall 6'4" and i have long arms to match. Most 58" sticks i have to hold right on the very end to be comfortable, so i was thinking if im going 2 inches more, maybe 4 more would be better. My schons 58 and i hold behind the wrap by a good 2 or 3 inches, edge of my hand is on the buttcap, and i dont have a longer than normal bridge either, probably about 10 inches. Id just like to pick up a standard sneaky pete or something like it in a 60 to 62 to try, then get a nicer one made later on if i like it (im on the list for a hercek but I have 6 years to go lol).

I'm in the same boat. I'm only 6'2" but I am generally on the butt sleeve. Most shots I'm just barely touching the wrap with the webbing of my hand and on the shortest/softest shots my hand is barely fully on the wrap. Mark Wilson suggested that I try a longer than standard cue when I had lessons with him. I shot some with his 61" cue and it was really comfortable and I liked the way it felt. I currently have 4 60" cues on order and I'm confident that they will all play great. *fingers crossed...lol*

Woody (BCA instructor), at Triangle Billiards suggested a longer cue for me, as my grip was ending up at the end of the butt. We settled on a 62" Viking. Shaft and butt are both 31". Has a little more deflection than I like, but I'm getting used to it. The stick feels alive, and spins the ball like crazy.

Getting the right length cue will take the handcuffs off your stroke. When you're playing with a cue that's too short, it's like trying to play pool in a room that's too small. A longer cue should take the handcuffs off your stroke.

The laminated shafts seem to hold up well at longer lengths. 60" should be long enough for you. I have a 60" JW with a 30" Predator shaft and it plays great. The Predators are fine in a longer version. I have a 60" custom sneaky pete with a Predator shaft and it plays almost exactly like my JW.

My friend is 6'7" and he bought a Huebler that's 62" long. He tried several shaft tapers, then had a 31" Tiger X shaft made up for it. The Tiger also holds up well at this length. It has a stronger taper than the Predator.

I would advise to play with the shortest cue length you can that puts the cue in a reasonably balanced position in your hands. Your grip hand should be in the wrap area. My suggestion would be to try a Predator and a Tiger shaft to see if you like them. If so, have a SP made up using one of those shafts.

Check out www.queperfect.biz. Seems to me Ronnie's got a lot of experience with long cues for tall shooters.

I am 5'10" and have a 58" cue - I shoot of the back of the cue also - have for years and am very comfortable back there - lot of good players play on the back of the cue. But I would not recommend more than a 60" cue. Have it built with the 2 inch increase in the butt. You will have the same length shaft you are used to so will not need to adjust to any deflection/whippiness changes due to a longer shaft. One problem is you will need to find a case that will accomadate a 31" butt. And a sneaky pete or plain jane custom would be a good way to see if this works for you without spending too much money.

go on the cue perfect web site they make on of the best 60 to 65 inch cues in the busness. just my 2 cents...I used to play with a 60 inch cue but there resale value sucks. i say just get a longer shaft to keep your value of your cue.good luck..
