What are the characteristics of a good jump cue? who makes the best? thaNKS

Just jump cue or jump break cue ?

And you are going to get a lot of opinions on this one .....

FYI I am talking about jump cue not jump break.

And

yes I do have an instroke jump cue do know how to jump properly ( can jump a full ball from 3 peices of chalk away)
just seeing what everyones opinion is and thats all thanks

Gremlin:

Yeah. I would say 80% of the time I can pocket the ball on the jump, about 70% for retirn safety, jump kicks and banks maybe a little lower percentage. I actually have 4 jump cues. An instroke, a J&J and 2 that I made myself on my refit metal lathe . MAde my own laminated tips for my jumpers aswell ( 8 layer rawhide epoxy laminate) I can jump just aswell with the ones I made as I can with the instroke. But if anyone has any other jumpcues they recomend let me know I am starting to collect cues of all types.

Thanks Jerry

Jump Cues

I can easily reccomend a bunjee jumper jump cue, for price under 100 dollars, as for craftsmanship and performance it is adequate for most advanced players. I try and not let my students jump balls until their kicking and banking skills are more than competent as reliance on jumpers can cause less expeinced player to overlook options that migh be more compatible to their skill levels. Many events dont allow jumpers and those which dont allow them often dont announce that fact until tournament begins , so if you are to reliant on flying over well paced safety balls you could be in trouble. Usually the cues make less difference than the technique in jumping, as other shots(usually the Indian,Not the Arrow syndrome)

this is one of the jumpers I made its a little ruff but hey I am not a pro lol

It has a Kwila forearm ( rainforest old growth tree Newzealand Austrailia) with an old groth fir end with 4 bamboo inlayed dots

Any of you cuemakers ever work with Kwila? if not email me I can send you some samples to check out

Best jump cues.

> Back several years ago,It's George made a great jump cue. it had a huge tip,an almost wedge like taper and a completely wrapped butt. Bungee probably makes the best one commonly seen. Mine is a Bill McDaniel made to fit Schon shafts. It looks like you took a plain birdseye Schon and cut it in half right below the top of the wrap and installed a black butt cap. The shaft has the old style yellow Micarta ferrule, slightly tapered, with a black Future synthetic tip. It,like the Bungee does for most people, makes the jump completely automatic, letting you commit to a solid shot objective. Tommy D.

Isn't it funny ...

Ever notice that good players will usually have a nice playing cue, and even break cue, but will have some type of hybrid
jumping cue, either sawed off or another shaft on it or something like that ... lol

I have 2 jujmp cues, a Huebler which I did not like until I cut it down to 40 1/4" long, and a Frog which I bought from Robin Dodson in Vegas a couple of years ago. My first money match up after getting back home, I made 6 of 7 jump shots with the Frog, so I started liking it pretty well. I may end up cutting it down to 'Tadpole' size like I did the Huebler. I think the lightness of a jump cue, a good shaft, and a hard well shaped flat tip are most important for good jump shots.

No one ever mentions it, but I used to shoot the 'other' type of jump shot, which is to actually go over the top of the cue ball as you shoot through the jump shot, used for long jump shots.

Does anyone else ever shoot that type of jump shot I just mentioned?

LOCO,

Instroke makes the best jump cue
Cheers,

You're not a tad bit biased here are you Grem? Since instroke is one of Sarah's sponsors.

I figure that by the time I can figure out a jump cue (I have an Air Temp) jumping will be outlawed. (I hope)

Anyone know what kind of jump cue Dr. Q uses.

Jake

Hi Grem, Just pulling your leg. But I see you are the typical male, a beautiful girl says jump, and all you can say is, how high?

After going to the instroke site, and rereading the bungee jumper instructions on how to jump, I decided to give my jump Q another try this morning while I was at the club. I have been carrying it around in my case for the past couple of months and not using it. I started by jumping a piece of chalk 8 inches away. then 2 pieces of chalk. Then a ball. And since it was going so well I started moving the ball closer to the CB. I was successful to just a little over a ball's distance from the CB. surprised myself. And it went pretty easy too. Now, making the CB go exactly where I want is another matter. Jake

Hey all getting shape after jumping is like any shot just with the butt of your cue higher up that all. I use to bet that I could jump a ball one piece of chalk away make the object ball and get shape on the next ball. and I made lots of money doing it.

I'd make that bet with you jay but I get to set up the balls. And Gremlin you can get shape on a jump shot. You can apply right, left, draw, and follow english on the cue ball and have it take effect after contact with the object ball or a rail. So the success of shape after making the object ball is much like your normal stroke just jacked up.
