Who currently makes the best (and I hope I'm getting this terminology correct) veneered full splice forearms? I'm going to name a few, and please add to...or correct me.

Barry Szamboti
Dennis Searing
Skip Weston
Paul Mottey
James White
Tim Scruggs
Mike Cochran
John Showman
Southwest Cues
TAD
Tascarella

Who else? This seems to be an art form in and of itself to do this well.

I know that Schon used to when Bob Runde initially started the company, but I'm sure Evan has the skill/capability to do this. Also, early JOSS cues (very early) had this style of forearm. Is it just too much work when and if you're trying to build cues on a larger scale of production?

I know I've studied my new Skip quite close and the points and veneers are just flawless. I'm amazed by the skill that must go into learning how to machine wood so perfectly.

Just a question from a pool player who knows next to nothing about cuemaking. Thanks in advance for any info.

The top of my list would include Dave Jones, his point work is amazing.

Exceptional equipment, and precise, efficient methods will produce consistent results.
V-points are not rocket science, and with the proper methods are pretty easy to produce.

V-points are not "too much work", but if that's all you do, your designs are pretty limited. CNC opens up a ton of options.

As far as I know it's " none of the above " as none of these cue-makers use a full-splice. If they do then someone else built it. There is only two or three cue-makers in the country who build full splice cues, as far as I know, and of these two or three people I believe most would consider Joel Herceck as the premeir builder.

Prather has started making full splice butts.
Both ends of the splice can be pointed with veneers.
Their new catalog has some nice examples in it.

Scott Whisler makes full splice cues and blanks. And, doesn't Mark Bear also make/use full splice?

I like the following they all do excellent work:

Full Splice: Joel Hercek

Short Splice:
Dennis Searing
Barry Szamboti
South West
Bob Manzino
Ernie Gutierrez
Pete Tascarella
James White
John Showman
Judd Fuller

There Are More Cuemakers Than Most People Think That Do, Or Can Do Full Splice. James White For Example Makes An Awesome Fullsplice, But Most People Don't Know He Even Builds Them.

when did they change?

Tony at Black Boar makes as fine a full splice as there is on the planet.

Unless they have changed, BlackBoars are not spliced.

There are several cue makers who "can" and "will" make a full splice cue...however, there is only one in the world that I know of who makes EVERY cue using a full splice, and that is Joel Hercek. In my opinion, if you want a full splice cue, you should try to get a Hercek. If you want it now, get one on the secondary market. If you can wait for a while on his list, then order directly.

Prather Full Splice?

I was looking in the new Prather catalog and they have a full splice butt with sharp points on both ends and I was wondering how they cut them? I know one way to cut a regular full splice with the pionts on one end not being sharp but don't know how they are making both ends of the points sharp. By the way if you haven't seen there new catalog it is very well done and worth getting!
Gary :)
