Ernie G is the best imo.
Eddie Prewitt, Mottey, Capone and Jacoby are very good as well.

Paul Fanelli comes very highly recommended in regards of wrapping cues with natural materials such as leather or especially snakeskin.

In a conversation with Barry Szamboti about my Gus Szamboti cue, I asked Barry if he had any hesitation recommending Scott at Proficient Billiards for a rewrap or refinish of my leather wrapped Gus, and his answer was no hesitation at all. Scott has done many things for me in the past, but not a leather wrap. Anything that he has done, including linen wraps, predator shafts, shaft taperring, cleanings, etc. have all been first rate.

I have also had repairs done by Ted Harris, though never a leather wrap, and his work is immaculate as well.

I would not hesitate to use any of the above cuemakers/repairmen to do a leather wrap on any of my cues. For me it would boil down to who could do it first. However, if I wanted snakeskin, I would definitely go to Paul Fanelli, I think he has much more experience working with that material.

My experience has been that when I need something done quickly, I go to Scott these days because I can drive to his shop in roughly an hour or so. Ted is the second fastest for me because we can UPS each other and it's only 1 day each way. Paul Fanelli is also within two hours from my house, but I think he is a little slower because his main business is cuemaking, not repairs(though he does do them).

For the record, Capone's shop is less than 30 mins from my house, and I have never used him for any repairs.

leather wrap

Hey buddha, if you need a leather wrap Ernie G. is the man. Invisible lines. Known for impeccable quality wraps. If this is about your porper, please let me help you. Joe has offered to rewrap this cue for me at very little cost. Just let me know, but if your're looking for another cue or for an A1 job Ernie hands down.

I've always heard that Ernie G (Ginacue) does the best job with leather wraps. From what I've seen, that could be true.

He does. What's even more amazing is he can do it in minutes.
He built a leather wrapping jig on his lathe. He can wrap it while you're waiting. His signature 2 rings near the top and bottom of the wrap has been stolen by a few cuemakers out there.
Ernie's a genius. If I had half of his brain, I'd be a ton smarter. :D

I was told Ernie will put wraps only on his cues or big name dead makers. Is this true?

leather work

There are several who do good leather work.

My leather work is top shelf also.

Ernie's leather wraps

Actually unless things over at his shop have changed, Ernie will work on other cuemakers cues. He's done wraps for me in the past on cues from various cuemakers.

Buddha,

Depending on where you are (above the east or west coast), give Mike Webb a call. He has done some incredible leather wraps for friends of mine. He can be reached at webbcues.com and is located near Providence, RI. His cues also hit great!

I would call Ernie too at Ginacue if you have the time and the funds. I think he charges a lot - like over $200 to do it. Tiger products in Burbank does an excellent job with standard leather wraps as well as their specialty wraps. He'll get it out in one day and it's $95. He's also a perfectionist. I had two leather wraps done and the seam is well hidden.

Leather wraps

The first Cognoscenti I saw had a leather wrap so flawless Adam Orr and myself looked for the seam with a jewelers loupe for 20 minutes each and never found it. Paul Mottey does the best lizard wraps I have seen, and Keith Josey also rules. Tommy D.

I think 10-15 years ago I would trust maybe 6 guys doing a leather. Now there are at least 60 that can do a fabulous job. But keep in mind that the heavily patterned leathers are easier to hide the seam, than the smooth leathers. I found this out while watching a great cuemaker applying the wrap and giving me the 411 on leathers and skins.

Mottey, Skip Weston, Fanelli, Capone, Blud, Mrs. Black, Murray Tucker, you can go on and on.

My favorite leathers are smooth calfskin, and kangaroo skin. Kangaroo is by far one of the nicest leathers I have found. I also like the lizard skin wraps. But they do loose the sheen, or shine, very quickly. Also I am not in love with the way the lizard skins wear.
