who usws juma ferrules

Juma

Not a Juma fan. Too soft. I don't like the hit. I'm an ivory guy. If it can't be ivory - use Ivor-x or Ivorine. Other good options are Linen Based Micarta and Westinghouse. Way better hit. Just my humble opinion.

I use it on many of my cues, but I play 1 pocket, straight pool, and snooker primarily, so I like the feel for position play. Conversely, I do tend to favor Juma with medium to harder tips.

It's kind of like putting PVC pipe on your cue. Honestly. That's what it cuts like on the lathe. It's just a little harder than PVC. A little more shock resistant. I won't use it. The ferrule will actually mushroom if the tip gets low.

Hi,

I totally agree with Renegade. Unless the player requests a specific ferrule on their choice I am 100% Juma as my cue construction in based on a lower frequency hit as I core my cues end to end with maple and use maple shafts. The wood combos only have a slight effect on the hit of my cue as the core is .742 dia. The Juma is the icing on the cake concerning the feel I seek on my cues.

I don't like the ring and or high pitched deal on a cue but the easiest way to make it that way is to change the ferrule if someone wants that.

Also I think Juma is the greatest material introduced to the cue industry ever, especially in the white color and I use it exclusively for butt caps, joints and have not use phenolic in over 7 years except for brown.

The White Juma sands perfectly clean and is not prone to get those little contamination particles in the surface. All of the other white materials I have worked with except Ivory has a propensity to become contaminated and the contaminated particals don't really sand out on some materials leaving a finished cue with an embedded contamination flaw in the white joint or butt cap.

With Juma, I can get the Caps and Joints absolutely perfect every time with only about 30 seconds of work and close inspection before sealing my cues. That is one of the reasons I think Juma is the tits cosmetically also. I can't stand to look at a cue with a speck of contamination magnified under my clear coat finish. I engrave my logo on all my butt caps and because of it's excellent machining attributes, the logo comes out flawless in Juma. I can not say the same for phonelic. It does not render itself to the micro mill as good as Juma and it does not have the consistency regarding machining attributes. Old phonelics were better than the stuff that has been out there for the last 8 or 9 years because the formula for the manufactoring process had to change regarding EPA guidelines. Phonelics were not designed to be pretty for cue making and the light colored streaks in the black does not bother people that use it for other reasons. It bothers me and that is why I gave all mine away and I have zero in my shop now.

Viva La Juma!!!

JMO,

Rick
