Who wants a 1 in 15 chance of winning a Rick Howard cue?

Sales continue to be on the slow side, so I thought I would try a different sales tactic on this one.

I have a beautiful 6 point Snakewood wrapless Rick Howard with an ebony handle and two 13mm shafts with ivory ferrules (one shaft is unplayed and ond has very little play). This cue is less than one year old. It is the second cue from the top.

I am selling 15 chances to win this pool cue for $100 each. So I am looking for 15 gamblers willing to take a 1 in 15 chance on this awsome cue.

Here is how it will work. Post a reply here if you want a ticket. this raffle will be on a first come, first serve basis. I will reply back if you are in the raffle. No money will change hands and no raffle will occur until I have 15 willing participants. You may buy more than one ticket if you want. Once I have fifteen ticket holders, they will each have 24 hours to paypal my account $100. When I recieve your cash, I will PM you your ticket number. If you fail to send in your money, your slot will be passed to the next member wishing to participate.

To keep things above board and honest, I need a well respected member here to accept the task of drawing the winning ticket. This member will not know who has which tickets. I will simply mail them a fedex envelope of with the fifteen tickets, they will reach in and remove one, then post a reply to the thread with the winning ticket number. I will then contact the winner for shipment of the cue. SIMPLE!!!!! Are there any volunteers for this honorable duty?

Good luck everyone! If this goes well, I will have other cues sold in this style in the future.

Great idea!

I would like to nominate Brianna187 (Lee) to draw the number. This is pretty tough to do completely iron clad, even if video taping the drawing, so some trust is involved.

Beautiful cue...

This would be a good way for TAR or AZbilliards to raise some $$ too. Give cuemakers some advertising and raffle off some nice cues.

Thanks for the positive comments. I want to make it as fair and trustworthy as possible, so send any questions or comments that you have and I will answer them quickly.

Bigskyjake, you are my official drawer being the first to request the duty.

This is fun isn't it!

Not trying to knock the idea...I think it is a good one....However...looking into the future...I wonder if this will spure "other" raffles of this type.

That being said, I wonder what the legalities of doing this over the internet...(accross state lines) etc. are and what the implications would be to the Web Site and owners.

Not trying to rain on any parades...just don't want to see a valuable site get caught up in "red tape" down the road.

I don't know what the legalities are myself, and unfortuanatly I don't have a wifes brother that has a cousin that is in law school....(but I am sure someone will) ....;)

I hope there are no legal issues, local organizations and pool tournaments do this all of the time, so I think it is alright. The difference is they raffle off lower quality production cues most of the time and your odds are much worse. This is a high quality custom cue with a great chance to win.

Hoppe had a good idea

I'll make a video ( which will be posted on youtube) of me opening the sealed envelope, pulling out the number and then pulling out all 14 other numbers so no one can claim that their number wasn't in there

Theoretically, the best way would be to fedex an envelope filled with papers with the numbers 1-15 written on them. In addition, i think that all of the participants should be private messaged with which number they have, but they should absolutely keep that confidential. I also feel that to make it completely fair, none of the participants knows who will be doing the drawing. Then, once the number is drawn, the drawer should immediately post the result. I think that if people trust you enough to partake in the contest, then they should also trust you to pick an upstanding member to do the drawing. Also, because this will be totally luck of the draw using this procedure, there should be a prerequesite that there be no complaining by any of the entrants. All of the participants should know exactly how the contest will be run prior to sending their 100.00 and as long as it is run exactly how described prior to the drawing, there should be no crying and no complaining. I think it's a good idea, there are always cue raffles at tournaments. I think the key here is that the 'raffler' is only collecting an amount of entries equal to the market value of the cue.

lot easier than that, take the last 2 of a lotto number on a given day in a given state, divide by 15, the remainder is the winner, if the remainder is 0, 15 is the winner. Everybody can see the number themselves online and do the division themselves to verify. No trust required. Just a thought.
For example:
last 2 are 20 then 5 is the winner
last 2 are 02 then 2 is the winner
last 2 are 30 then 15 is the winner
etc.

oooh, that's pretty much bullet proof, nobody can complain because the state lotto board is the one who put the number there

good call cats

I stole most of it from somebody else. :)

Funny! I thought this whole raffle thing seemed familiar. I wonder where I've seen it before... several times! ;) :D ;)
Exactly what I was thinking. Could it be that the whole idea originated with the same person as my lotto for the number idea?

I thought of doing this on a cue a while back and from looking into it my understanding is that a chance lottery like this is illegal unless it's done for a charitable organization. I could be wrong but you might want to run it by the forum mods. I like the idea and not trying to shoot it down, just giving you a heads up.

We have a third contestant:
Phinmole

Could someone explain the lotto idea to me again in simpler terms. I do not understand the math yet:o .

i like the lotto idea much better than what i posted earlier.....

here's what he's suggesting:

if the last 2 numbers of the lottery are 22, then the winner is 7 because;

15 goes into 22 once with a remainder of 7.

if the last two numbers are 09, then the winner is 9 because;

15 goes into 09 zero times with a remainder of 9.

and so on......
