One factor that most fail to realize and I've never seen mentioned as a reason for a Filipino pros' high level pool playing ability is geography. The Philippines is such a small country, barely the size of California, that all the good players just converge in Manila. Nobody here is considered worth taking notice of until they can hack it in Manila. Can you imagine all the good players within 20 miles to each other and just go at it after setting up through mobile phone. Also, subconciously, the internationalists are very open at teaching the new things that they've learned from a recent trip.jay helfert said:Orcullo, Manolo, Bustamante, Reyes, Alcano and Pagulayan.
Against the USA? Hell, I'd take them against the rest of the world and lay a price. If you increase the size of each team to ten players, the filipinos have an even greater advantage. My guess is that 25 of the top 50 pool players in the world are filipino.
Actually, the Chinese are probably the next strongest country today after the Philipines.
I cringe to think "What if the American pool pros all live in a tiny state like Hawaii and the structured, technology supported training is made available to them?"
