Jose Parica / Efren Reyes
Lets here some insights, who is the favorite? Why?
Anyone have an archive as to the head to head record?
This is what I think with some odds posted:

8 Ball- Efren/ lock Lets post whatever
9 Ball- Toss up/ 50-50
Straight- Jose/ 2 to 1
One pocket- Efren/ lock BET
Rotation- Jose?/ tough one to call- slight favorite 3-2
Billiards- Efren/ I heard he was a pretty good player

I would love to hear if they ever gambled and who took it home.

Thanks
Rob

Efren accross the board....(if I had to bet my last dollar)

Hows that for insight...

I remember reading an article saying that Parica says he's up on Efren. Don't remember when it was from. I don't believe Efren is a lock against Jose playing 1 pocket.

I have a several Accu-stats pool matches.
I've heard it said(by the commentators) where Parica claims he is a better player. He also claims to have taken a ton of cash off of Efren. Whether any of this is true or not I don't know. It's just what I've heard on more than one occasion on the Accu-stat tapes.

Apparently (I've also heard)there is some envy and jealousy involved.Parica was the first to come to America. He also has claimed to have owned (took loads of cash) Efren head to head, yet the Philipino community has adopted Efren as there favourite. All this does not sit well with Jose.Once again this is hearsay from pool video tapes.

They are both GREAT players in my opinion and I suspect it would be a close matchup on all counts with niether dominating.

Efren - All the way.

Don't forget Efren has NEW vision after surgery.
I would bet all the cheese, Cows, Pigs & the entire farm on Efren doing anything on any pool table.
I may lose but I would know I had the best of it.

Personally I would never place a wager on this match. Even though Reyes might be the slight favorite, I'd hate to have money riding on Parica losing...he's too good to bet against.

My thoughts exactly.
Betting against Parica is just too risky.

uhm... i would bet all my money on the short filipino guy... yeah... yeah... that's the ticket! Actually, I've heard the same stories where Parica claims he's up on Efren, so I guess that's my answer.

There is no doubt that Efren is the better tournament player but gambling? Efren has a huge amount of gamble in him but I've heard that everyone fears Jose when it comes to gambling on pool. At one of the DCC tournaments, Efren listed Jose as his idol in pool. I guess what I'm saying is, I wouldn't bet the farm on Efren but I would bet some money on him and then watch the match with gusto!!

I think first we would have to know how long the races were in each mathc. First off in 8-ball Efren would crush jose no doubt about it! ask anyone whos is the best 8-ball player in the world today and efren will be named! Now for 9-ball id say in a long race it would be a pretty close match but i see efren winning.I think his saftey and cueball control would give him the edge in a match to say 100 or more. Straight pool, I again think reyes is untouchable when all 15 balls are on the table! he just has a way of playing postion and seeing patterns other players dont see. rotation i could say the same for straight i guess ive never seen the game played but im thinking jose is very good be the game of choice over in his country, from what i hear efren is a world class billiards player! i heard he was so good at balkline they stopped letting him play in the tournamntes over there! he would play the winner and give him a 100 point spot! to sum it up i think in a long race in any game i would bet all that i had on Efren "bata" Reyes! :D

The two times I've personally seen them play each other (in tournaments) Parica won - at Commerce Casino in LA and in Vegas. I was side betting on Efren in Vegas and lost.

I don't think Jose would have the edge on Efren playing rotation, Efren is widely reguarded as being one of if not the best rotation player in the world. I would put my cash down on Efren in rotation. Playing eight ball, nine ball, and straight pool I don't think I would bet on either player because their quite evenly matched. Playing one pocket I would put the cash down on Efren, would anyone really bet against Efren playing someone even in one pocket? I hope not.

They were playing against each other in the finals at Hollywood Billiards a couple of years ago (9 ball). A lot of brave people wanted to bet on Efren (sigh), I took all the bets and then watched Parica torture him. Parica was ahead about 9-2 in a race to 13 and all of these brave betters (sigh) were coming up to me and asking to buy out at a discount. Parica ended up winning 13-3 I believe. Either one of them could win on any given day in 9 ball, 1 pocket, rotation, or 8 ball but Efren is probably a slight favorite in any of these games.

Parica is going to beat efren some of the time, he is a very good player, but if the races were long i think in the long run if both players are in stroke efren would win the most!

Actually, I have always felt Jose was the 9-Ball favorite. Overall, I like Efren, however it is real close.

Efren is the better technician, but Jose has no quit in him.

Playing everything, I like Efren like 6;5.

It is more like the opposite. Short races, Efren, 12+ hours of play straight, Jose all the way!

Great Avatar!!!

Your AVATAR is the greatest! Actually, I really could see George doing that and saying that - and liking it - a lot!!!:D

It would seem that Jose has a "tighter" game - not subject to wild fluctuations in play. When Efren is on you can just turn out the lights - the fat lady is singing etc etc etc.

I agree...Efren has too much momentum these past couple years. I don't gamble, so that means I have to go with the sure thing. Anyone that wants to bet against Efren across the board, please contact me for some Florida vacation property I have for sale.

ill go one step further! in a long race in any game ill take efren against anyone who ever picked up a cue! you can beat efren in a race to 11 but in a really long race is overpowering ability will prevail
