I do not want to depress anyone, but this image gives you a sense of what our sport looked like in the 1800's. I wonder what table time costs were?

Mike Shamos could probably tell us the cost in today's dollars but I don't think he posts here. He authored a book "The Complete Book of Billiards" although I haven't read it yet.

Classic photo

If this photo is pre 1879 they had to play night matches by candlelight.
Looks like there might have been some action in this room as well.

Nice room.

I listened very very closely to that picture, and learned that it's also true that the room didn't play that ridiculous, obscene, head banging, temple throbbing, vomit invoking (some call music) noise that infests and infects poolrooms today, making them much less likely to attract family play.

Maybe that's why the folks in the picture seemed so calm. :bash: :yeah:
