My top ten, in no particular order:
Luther Lassiter
Earl Strickland
Buddy Hall
Mike Sigel
Jim Rempe
Efren Reyes
Jose Parica
Johnny Archer
Don Willis
Nick Varner
Followed closely by Keith "Birthday Boy" McReady, Billy Johnson (Wade Crane), Denny Searcy (who may have beat any of them at one point in his career), Harold Worst (same as Denny) and Greg Stephens (except on the 4th straight day of playing). A friend of mine, who really knows his stuff, told me that at one time, Mark Tad played scary good, but I never saw him play. Of today's younger players, I kinda like Corey; I think he's a little better than he's given credit for IMHO.

tournaments - Sigel, Strickland, Varner, Souquet, Archer, Efren, Hall.

money games - Parica

RIGHT NOW - Pagulayan

if he was more serious: Corey Deuel in the RIGHT NOW category (tie for 1st)

I am sorta biased on the subject, but my grandfather told me that for over 20 years he hunted down some of the greatest. (Cowboy Moore, Willie Mosconi, Eddie Taylor, Rags Fitzpatrick, etc.) but no one ever came looking for him. He told me that he had a lot of respect for the games of Eddie Taylor (called him unbeatable at banks), Willie Mosconi, Wimpy. Don Willis never looked to be the greatest he would not enter tournaments or let anyone take his picture. Being the smart mouthed kid I was I once asked him if he was so good where was all his trophies. He chuckled and looked me in the eyes and told me "I sleep in and drive my trophies" In his career that spanned over 30 years he was the greatest unknown 9baller/straight pool player ever IMHO.

earl the douche bag for sure...just look at his tournament records. as for that "color of money" match... earl shot 912 against efren's 911. pretty impressive against probably the greatest all around pool player ever. eeee gambling's another story. put any top 3 phillipino players and you got your list ( i havent seen neither wimpy nor don play). but uhh no alex the lion...geez. the guy's a champion but best ever? no thanks lol.

I think to classify someone as "the best" at something you have to look at several different categories. First, ofcourse, their accomplishments. Second, their mental preparation and working nature toward whatever it is that they do. Finally, their committment to acheiving success. And I do not think anyone does these things better than the Great Earl Strickland. I have heard Earl say many times that he has to work hard to stay on his game and that he always treats it like a job. Another name that I have noticed that has been overlooked some on these top ten lists is Johnny Archer. He came from a complete gambling background growing up and has turned into one of the most feared tournament players around.

I have to go ...

Lassiter,Buddy....Paul Schofield :D

with Lassiter and Buddy too. Wimpy was a highly intelligent player besides
being good, and Buddy was deadly in his prime, besides staying in the top 5 pros rankings for over 20 years.

Right now hands down -

Todays #1 Corey and Alex with out a doubt. Id love to see them duke it out in a Color of Money race to 120. That would be bad A$$!:D
