whos the best player in canada???

Also, just a quick plug .... we will find out who the best in Canada is next month at the Canadians. Poolsponge aka Jason Munro from AZ will be playing in his first ever open event. If his break is on, he is going to surprise a few players for sure.

As for favourites, in no particular order look out for:
Alex Pagulayan (I don't think he's playing),
Alain "Dancing Bear" Martel,
Danny Hewitt,
John Morra,
Marrio Morra (John's Dad)
Erik Hjorleifson,
Luc Salvas (wow he is fast),
Harold Rousseau,
Francis Crevier,
Edwin Montal,
Tyler Eddie,

My personal prediction is look out for Danny Hewitt. This guy has a world class game when his head is into the match!

Alain "The Danceing Bear" Martel
Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan
Luc "Machine Gun" Salvas
Edwin Montal

Are a few that I'm aware of, but there are alot of very good players up in Canada :)

half the guys mentioned on this thread are dinosaurs

in response to the op

there hasn't been a dominant player here since Alex left, and no, we can't
compete with the world beaters

It was nice to see Tyler Edey do so well in the most recent WPC.

true, tyler and edwin are consistantly in top world beater fields and doing quite well.As I recall, edwin finished second in the 8 ball AND 9 ball u.s. bar table championships with a huge field(around 170players in both)last year, only to lose to mike davis and dennis orcollo. There was ALOT of world beaters there.

Danny Hewitt, Luc Salvas, Edwin Martel, just to name a few! :)

Luc Salvas gets invited to almost all of the Allen Hopkins-promoted events, and he's a joy to be around, funny, fast shooter, and loves to gamble.

Edwin Martel is a strong player. He loves the action as well. He won about 20 or 30 big ones in Vegas playing card games while the IPT tournament was in progress. He also defeated Tony Chohan at another event I witnessed.

Danny Hewitt is a determined, serious-minded player, and if he's got his game on, nobody has to like it!

Then you have Ronnie Wiseman who's another one to watch. Of course, Alex Pagulayan used to say he hailed from Canada, but today, I think he has triple residency between Philippines, Hawaii, and Canada.

Tyler Edey? He is from Calgary, I think.

I know a guy that works at my local pool hall (the rack & cue) named Anichio and on a good day he's the best i know.

(edit)
Oh and he's 2-1 against alex

I'm giving the nod to John Morra, and, to clarify, I don't think Alex Pagulayan counts as Canadian.

I sort of agree with you and don't,thats where he grew up and mastered the game.He still has a home there and canadian citizenship i do believe.

OMG! Yes, I did! Thanks for the correction! Me, of all people, commiting a typo! :o

JAM

Typo? Your finger slipped off the 'o' and landed on the 'a' located 9 keys and a row apart? Then off the n and slipped onto the 'r' two rows up and 4 keys over? Ahahahah.

John Morra played in our Saturday tournament this past weekend and I would have to say he is a very fine player. He only missed 2 balls until he got to the finals (That is local railbirds counting). He's definitely got game!

I don't think that John is playing much pool these days... as he hasn't been coming south into the Seattle area for our regional tournments for a couple of years now. IIRC, he's more focused on golf right now instead of pool.

A loss to pool then...I only watched him play once, but was very impressed with his studied and gentlemanly style. Class form, all the way.
