Who's the best player in Virginia

Where do you think Larry Kressel and Jordan from Richmond rank on the list? I know Larry will play anyone for the $$$. Even people that he shouldn't. Last time I talked to him, he told me that he just finished playing Josh Brothers some even races and lost. Apparently Larry and Jordan are pretty even. At the last PP event in Richmond, Jordan went through Brett Stotlemeyer like a buzzsaw for some cash, although not much.

I think they both would come up short playing the top-level folks referenced here earlier. I like Jordan's game a bit better than Larry's, but I am not bettin a penny on either  . I like Brett over both.

Clatterbuck offered him the 7 ball and wouldn't take it. No offense, but Dennis is not even close to these guys. He has no shot against Keith.....however he is a very nice guy.

You tell 'em!! Welcome to the WWW, ladeez and jentz- If you read it, must it be true!?!

Matt,
You keep putting T-Bone on your 'impressed' list. I have know him for a long time and we are definitely tight, but I really don't think he is anywhere near the caliber of Slivka/ McCready/ Pookie/ BDRonnie. I guess you think he plays better than Kingpin?
Hard to gauge T-Bone's real speed. It's been a few years, but he used to give me 10-X, where whatever X was (8, 7, or 6), he was pretty masterful at making sure I got either X-2 or X-1. I didn't mind since he'd play cheap and I learned a lot, and broke even now and then. But my guess is that you're right -- strong, but not as strong as the others you list.

At least in 01-02, T-Bone was way better than his nephew Kingpin, who I don't think could have given me more than 10-8.

Funny story about those two. In the early 1990s where I shot, the north side of Chicago, it was easiest to lose your money to people with names like Dasher, RocketMan, WaterDog, or The Grinder. Ever since, I've always been real cautious about players with nicknames. Then I move to Alexandria in 2001 and don't know anyone. But I quickly find may way to a pool hall and one of the first guys I start playing fairly often goes by KingPin, who I soon find out learned to shoot from his uncle T-Bone. Yikes.

Those were the days! Chicago pool has gotten quite a bit less exciting without those guys around. :(

Have to agree with this from the few times ive seen Matt play. Beat Ryan Mcreesh pretty handily, saw him in action up at Valley Forge, and saw him beat a pretty strong one pocket player TC easily. I knew he could play 9 ball but didn't think he would have much of a chance in this one pocket game but he drilled his opponent.

Hi!rackemup :D I'm just responding to quote you made.Matt does play very good, but I really would like to play again sometime in the future for a nice stack of "DOUGH" if I could.I would like you to resond to that if you can,or back him for the "MONEY".Please don't take it the wrong way.I'm just looking to "GAMBLE".

Rackemup, don't put that "Nice stack of Dough" on the table light. It might disappear.

Pooky (if he is still playing)

Pooky won one of the florida pro tour stops...the one in springhill, fl. It was my understanding that he plays allot of online poker and doesn't play pool much anymore. Apparantly, his parents(??) put him in these tournaments tohelp his game but he doesn't want to do it anymore because he is so into poker!

I wasn't aware of that. My apologies.

Hi, 9balldiva! Pooky is a very talented young player with a lot of heart. It isn't his parents who put him in the tournaments, though. He does have some very dear friends who believe in him, and Pooky is very loyal to those who believe in his capabilities. He is definitely one of the good guys!

I am hopeful he will return to the tournament trail sometime soon!

Welcome Ryan

Hey Ryan, nice to see you on board. This forum will give you an opportunity to show people the real Ryan and not the guy they've heard stories about. You will also have a bunch of insights to add about the game and the action throughout the country. Maybe you can even get your own category like Shawn and Keith so people could ask you questions directly. Anyway, it was nice to see your replies. I might be playing Brandon S. some sets tonight. I'll fill you in on what happened tomorrow.

It is GREAT to see the Genie Man posting.

Hope you do well in Sterling tonight, Mapman72. Brandon S. is also an AzBilliards Forum Member, but can't log in quite yet. :p

We've got quite a few folks from our neck of the woods on this forum now, which is FANTASTIC.

Good luck to you this weekend. We won't be in Sterling, but I'll see you at the Turning Stone. BTW, who won the bet between you and M.D. last night on where to stay for the next week? :)

I believe I saw mention that T-Bone is no longer playing for $ (he sure used to accept my donations when I was younger!) and I think you have to know that what we do in the gym isn't really an indicator of 'how good' we play. Anybody can fire a bank and bust the stack, but you don't usually see good players doing that 'coz it usually isn't a very good shot choice.

Not sure what my point is, but I demand that you remove the Bone from your list. Naw, just kidding. He can stay if you want!

T-Bone is the man. Plain and simple. He is a better player than Kingpin in my opinion. Kingpin is my friend and that is nothing I wouldn't say to him. If T-Bone was younger and played full time he could hang with/beat any of those names you mentioned. The guy just has a lot of natural talent. He has a full time job though and is a family guy, which is how he likes it. Just my 2 cents.

You are right about that one! I've seen him play like a monster....and then somedays he can't get in gear. That is what happens when you play once or twice a week.

I remember when T-Bone first approached me to play some "cheap 9 ball" when I first came into Champions a few years ago. I hung in there pretty good, but man did he have a stroke. We've been pool room pals ever since (when I can make it in). Now that I'm married with a daughter...I only get in there once a week.

Man, you are telling my story! Is I am you and you are me and he is she and we are all together?

Have we ever met? I worked @ Shirlington when it first opened and used to live inside the Beltway, but haven't been there outside of planet pool events in prob 2yrs.

LOL. Actually, we were playing a race to 9 and we stopped with me leading 3-2 and Mike breaking. Ilir came over and wanted to gamble and Mike and I agreed that that action was much more important. IMO, Mike gave up a little too much weight, the 78, and Ilir came out on top for a little $. Then Ilir and I played a set even and I won $100. That little buttmunch is playing pretty well these days as you saw that night he four packed Keith. I have beaten him even the last 6 out of 7 times, breaking even once, and he keeps coming back. I think it's an ego thing and he just wants to beat me so bad. How come you're not going to Sterling? Too much work?

Well, I've been going there (and living in DC) since 2000 so it is highly possible. PM me your name. I'm sure we've met if not just seen each other in there.
