Who's the toughest kid out there?

Not too long ago, there were some roadies in town, a few of us got into a game with them and while sweating it i was talking to the backer guy about pool, matchups, etc. He mentioned some kid, i foget the name of the kid and where he was from, but he said this 15-16 y.o. kid could give his player the 7 ball and rob him. Now this guy played pretty damn good and he was only 19 himself.

So, who knows of any up and coming world beaters out there and how good are they? I mean can they beat established pros already or is all the hype based on potential?

Alex

Billy I guess. (not a sexest thing, it's just that only the male kids are called that.)

You all might want to keep an eye on Josh Brothers.

Althought Josh is young, I think he is technically not a "kid" anymore. I think he's 18 or 19 at least.

Keep an eye on Richard Barney, 13 or 14 years old I'd guess. This is a kid who used to play (maybe still does) at Hagerstown Billiards in Maryland. He's played in a few Planet-Pool events. I had the unfortunate opportunity to experience his prowess first hand, when he beat me something like 9-2, pretty much controlling the table perfectly! He got third place in a pretty big regional tournament that had many heavy hitters. He just won the Junior 14 and under at Valley Forge. I can tolerate getting beaten if he's on his way to becomming a champion, which I believe may be the case.

I must be getting old, they all seem like kids to me!

I guess you guys have forgotten about Wu, the current WORLD CHAMPION in both 8-ball and 9-ball, from China. He's only 16! :D

Since he's not on the IPT, he's a nobody....Just kidding! He's been around so much, he's like an old warhorse and it's easy to forget he's only 16!

I saw him at Valley Forge but it was during the tournament & I didn't see him afterwards. I wasn't aware that he had won.... I'm certainly not surprised. :p That kids got game!

The best part about it is that he is an absolute sweetheart. He's quiet, and keeps his emotions to himself when he doesn't play well.

LOL, I remember the tournament where you learned the hard way just how well the kid plays. I think he came in 3rd.... wasn't it Shawn, Ryan, and Richard???

Yep, that was the tournament and I think you're right on the top 3. If memory serves correctly, he dispatched Don Steele, a very strong player, to guarantee third. When I watch Richard play he is very even tempered, and I think this really is a necessary quality to have in order to excel at pool. He seems to have extraordinary mental discipline and no nerves. But I saw a lot of young players who likewise were very composed at Valley Forge, running racks with ease. It's irritating actually to see them so calm in pressure situations!

Put him down Timberly he's way too young for you! :D

The initial post attempts to identify an up and coming 15-16 year old whose name has slipped the memory of the initial poster. As world champion, Wu does not qualify as up and coming.

Wu Chia Ching is the toughest 16 year old right now. What with the world 8 and 9 crowns that he won in the same year. He flew in last night to hone his skills some. I heard that he and Dennis Orcullo has a match set for tomorrow or Monday for some sizeable ...... Speaking of last night, I just watched Efren spank Gomez, guy who beat him at the World 8 in Fujairah, 17-9 while spotting him the wild 7 and 9 in a ten ball match. I'll try and update you all about the Wu-Orcullo match and others as I'm sure that he's going to have players lined up to take on him.

I also have now under my wing a 16 year old who's still flying under the radar in the local scene. He just beat a high 3rd-tier player with a run-away score. So he's probably just 1 ball below Alcano now. We'll probably just play afternoon matches then 1 heavyweight per month to stay under the radar. 4 more months of this and we'll hit the evening to early morning sessions to fine tune for the WPC.

I would love to hear more about this match. Thank you.

I think Wu has a better chance in 9 ball than in rotation against Dennis. Which game are they playing?
